HELP

I just went to my pre assessment today.  I got some unanswered questions about some things.  The pre op people told me that I needed to contact Dr. H or his wife and can't get ahold of either of them.  Up until today I was really ready for this.  I have done the research and wrote papers on this.  I was really excited until today.  Now I am totally scared and feel like I have no one to talk to.  I didn't know about the 2 week liquid diet with the Slim Fast or Boost shakes.  I live on pretty much nothing.  My daughter gets an SSI check so I am not sure that I can afford the shakes.  I am not sure what to do.  My surgery date is the 13th of Jan.  I am also suppose to get the vitamins in liquid form and again the problem arises with the money.  I have MO MEDICAID and they won't pay for any of this.  If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it because right now I am scared, confused and nervous and that really doesn't make a good combination.

Hi there. sorry i can't help you on the preop diet for DR H. or the vitamines but there some very kind people on here who have DR H as their surgeon and i know some of them will be able to answer your questions. I wanted to Welcome you to the Mo board. i know there has to be some  on here that have just went  thru the slim fast diet that should have some left over. that maybe they could mail those to you or meet you somewhere. where do you live?

you can use any protein powder if it is a good 100% whey protein powder instead too , or at least im sure that i know of someone that has used it instead of slim fast....that stuff has so much sugar in it ...anyway

how are you getting Dr. H. to do surgery with Mo. Medicaid ? anyway welcome to the board and hopefully someone can help you out....

I have a really good case manager through Mo medicaid.  DR. H is the only place that would take it .  I am suppose to start my liquid/Slim Fast diet tomorrow.  Thanks for the welcome both of you.  I am just trying to get the feel for this because I have friends that have had this surgery done but none of them have used Dr. H so they can't help me out.

Hi there...Welcome to the MO board...you came to the right place...beleive me I know...!!!
Im 3 week out from surgery with Dr H....your in the right hands as far a surgrery goes and for getting healthy too....I just think the world of those two...Dr H and Margie. Margie is not in the office for the rest of the week, dont know about Dr H. Otherwise you could call them to find out about what else they could suggest for you slim fast.
But I do have a Six pack of Choc. that you can have, if you want?
I will be going to the Support meeting on Sun the 4 at Bothwell. I can bring it then if you want? I lived on Chicken Broth most of the time with my 2wk diet and as far as the liquid Vit...Not a problem their either....My next appt with Dr. H is the 13 Jan and I get to go on pill form....you can also have the Liquid Vits if you want...
Where are you from? maybe your close enough to me that we could met and get you these things...Let me know K....And dont worry...were all great on here....things will work out for you k.

thanks for the offer.  I am from Stockton Missouri.  I am not sure how far that is from Warrensburg.  I know from Stockton to Sedila is a 2 hour drive.  I am not sure what time your appointment is but you should come by the hospital on the 13th so that I can talk to someone.  My family is leaving right after the surgery

Slim fast makes a powder that you mix with milk that works for the liquid diet. Walmart has it.Not all Doctors require the diet but DR H does to shrink your liver and make surgery easier and recovery also. If you happen to be close to me I can give you protein powder to help you get started. The liquid vitamins are a good idea at first and centrum makes one you should be able to find at walmart. After about three weeks you should be able to swallow a vitamin or continue to use chew ables. The main thing is to get enough protein and low carbs,around a 1000 cals a day. I starved but lost 15 pounds on my two weeks.

Congrats on having the surgery.  I had Dr. H and just loved him and his staff.  They are always as helpful as can be.  My wife is having the surgery but couldnt get into Dr. H cuz they wouldnt accept her Mo Medicaid, so she is having to go to Columbia to Missouri Bariatrics where they accept the Mo Medicaid.  When I had surgery with Dr. H  I was able to use the chewable vitamins and chewable calcium,  ya might email Margie and ask her if you could do those,  those are cheaper then the liquid I believe.  As for the B-1 tho I had to cru**** up for the first month, ugh, tastes bad but it didnt last long.  Good luck on your journey and do keep coming back and posting.

I was wondering if you were going to the meeting on the 4th at bothwell?  I have some Chicken noodle soup I can give you that you can drink for the broth of course you won't be able to eat the noodles or chicken but the broth is good.  ( I have about 15 cans I can give you) I also have some chewable calcium vitamins I can give you and I think I might have some protien powder also.

I'm not completely sure if I'm going or not I am going to try to ride up with someone from this area but Im not sure if they have room for me or not yet so I will let you know if I'm coming if not I will try to give the stuff to someone that is going to give to you.

Thank you everyone for your support and help.  I feel like I have friends that really understand this and what I am going through.  I haven't really had anyone to talk to about this.  I am nervous about the surgery.  I think one thing that worries me is my daughter and not being able to pick her up as she weighs around 45 pounds.  If anyone is around the Stockton area I would be hapy to meet with you and make some lifelong friends.

I probably won't be going to the meeting on the 4th as it is a 2 hour drive one way and short on money.
