Iron
What kind of Iron does anyone take. I got some Iron that says 65 mg equlivalent to 325 mg ferrous sulfate. In reading my book from MO Bar it says I need to take ferrous fumarate. I checked that iron out and it is like $25-$30 a bottle.
I think it might be just as cheap to pay the $50 for the prenatal vits...
Help anyone???????

I order mine from Celebratevitamins.com and funny enough I ordered iron yesterday. I like thiers because they add vitamin C to it and that makes your body digest it better. It was 16.95 for 90 days and if you call and order they will give you 10% off if you ask. Very nice people, I love thier vitamins! Lou (~.~)
Susie, I'm confused. Dr. H in his binder said to get Flinstones Vitamins with Iron. But it didn't say we needed to buy more iron than that for post-op did it?
If I am goin to need it I want to know so I can get it ordered. Do you have any idea what to do. I have my chewable calcium citrate. What else do I need?
I take ferrous fumarate. I get it from GNC and believe it or not, it is actually reasonable. It has 100 tablets w/18mg for $3.99. I was taking two a day but I have been anemic for years and it wasn't getting better so they started me on a script, too.

Thank you all for your answers.
I will check out GNC thats where I get my protein powder from. Its a little pricey but is a good quality protein. I can tell a big difference than when I was taking the body fortess from walmart.
Vesta the nut at MO Bar said we need to take iron unless we were taking the prenatal vits. Now they are not even recommending the prenatal vits.
I have to have labs drawn in Jan. so I will see where I am at then.

Beverly,
I just was speaking with our Nut about this. I got tired of paying the prices from bariatric advantage. She gave mea list of ones we can take from Walgreens. I just got some and spent 5.99 on them. Here is the email she sent to me. Hope this helps.
You can take iron over-the-counter in pill form. Brands I recommend are Vitron-C which has 200 mg ferrous fumarate ( take 1/day; available over-the-counter at pharmacies sales for roughly ~$11 for 60 tablets), Cyprus Ferrous Fumarate 106 mg elemental iron (take 1 per day; available at Walgreen's, $25 for for 100 tablets) and Walgreen's Gold Seal Ferrous Gluconate which has 27 mg iron (take 1 1/2 to 2 per day; available at Walgreens- sales as 100 tablets for $5.99). We typically recommend the Vitron-C for those with iron deficiency but do have some patients who use it more consistently without problems. If you purchase from another source, look at the supplements facts label to determine that you are getting "ferrous fumarate" or "ferrous gluconate" iron. Most over-the-counter iron is "ferrous sulfate" which contains less elemental iron and more prone to cause constipation. Also look for the amount of elemental iron (the amount of actual iron in the supplement vs. the total supplement weight- which is the larger number). You'll want to aim for a minimum of 45 mg elemental iron daily (recommendation is for 45-60 mg iron daily). For even more budget stretching, you could get one with approx. 100 mg elemental iron (like the Cyprus Ferrous Fumarate from Walgreens) and cut each tablet in half; therefore, doubling your purchase amount.
