Hi there! I was wondering if anyone has any info about the Northlands area of Kansas City, Missouri? There is a possiblilty that we may be tranferring there.

I've done a tiny bit of research, and it looks like Liberty is a nice area with good schools. Can anyone give me some first hand insight?

I'd also like info on other nearby towns, that are safe, have good schools, and would not be a terribly long commute to the north part of KC. Someone mentioned Kearney, too.

And realistically, what's the weather like? City-data makes it look like it snows 6 months out of the year. Please tell me this isn't true....

Finally, I am right at 7 weeks out and will need to find a doc for follow-up care. Any recommendations?

Bama mama dont know a thing about kansas city , im sure there are lots on here that do. i just wanted to welcome you to the Mo board.   hope you will make your home here with us.... Dr. Hornbostel  is a  great surgeon , is that what you wanted a weight loss surgeon. dont know if he will take others patients but he might...

no i dont think it snows 6 months out of the year but  it being in the northern part of the state does get more snow than we see down here in the very most southern  part of the state. li hope someone from that area will come on and tell you the answers you want to know.

Welcome to the Mo Boards! I live in the Liberty area! It is a nice town with good schools. As long as you stay north of the river (Missouri) there are nice towns and good schools. Kearny is real nice with a country feel to it. Gladstone is also a nice town. I live in Claycomo which is about 10 minutes from Liberty. Claycomo is a very small area and it is really nice too. My daughter goes to the North Kansas City school district and so far, I have been very impressed with them.

As far as a surgeon, mine is Dr. Price out of St. Luke's. St. Luke's is located downtown. He is a very good surgeon and is very caring and compassionate. He saved my life a couple of times because I had several complications after surgery. I would recommend him to any and every one. His number is 816-932-5378. BTW, he is from the south too! He came to Mo from Louisiana!

I am doing great! How are you doing? I have lost around 75 pounds now!!  I don't know the exact amount because I never weigh myself, I don't want to get obsessed!

Cassie ~ You've beat me in pounds by about 25 but I WILL catch up.  I am addicted to the scale and weigh every morning.  Seeing those numbers so much lower than they've been for years, encourages me.  Are you glad you did it now?  I sure am.

Hi - I'm new and live in the Northland in Kansas City. I am two weeks post op lap rny. I had my surgery in St. Louis at DePaul Medical Center. I ended up with an infection but am feeling better now. I am having lots of gas and diarrhea - does this pass? I think the sugar-free popsicles, pudding, etc. makes it worse. Does anyone have any advice? Also, I am still sleeping on my back because it hurts to sleep on my side - when does this go away?

Oh, does anyone know of a support group in Kansas City North?

Thank you!

I lived in Liberty for 10 years and really liked it.  Just don't locate in Kansas City, MO because they have serious school problems.  They lost their accreditation several years.  Kearny is nice with that small town feeling.  Parkville is really nice.

Dr. Price is my doctor too and I highly recommend him.

It doesn't snow 6 months out of the year.  Right now, we're having temps in the70s but that can change any minute.  Some winters are very milk, you just never know from year to year.

Thanks Cassie and Jo. I appreciate all the info I can get. Just from looking online, Liberty looks like a great place to raise kids. I have a 15 year old son and a 14 year old daughter, who are excited about the community center.
