Sausage Mushroom Quiche

I'm going to type this just like my "fat" recipe is and then under that I will suggest alternatives to make it more weight loss friendly.

1/2 to 1 lb breakfast sausage (cooked and drained)
1 to 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 ~ 4 oz can mushrooms
1 Tablespoon minced onion
5 eggs
3/4 cup half and half
1 tsp salt
1/4 to half tsp pepper
1 frozen or homemade deep dish unbaked pie shell

In a bowl combine sausage, cheese, mushrooms and onion: sprinkle into pastry shell.  Combine (whisk good) the eggs, cream, salt and pepper; pour over sausage mixture.

Bake at 375 for 35~40 minutes or until nicely browned and knife come out clean, should be firm to the touch.  Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting.

Alternatives:

Breakfast Turkey Sausage
reduced fat mozzarella cheese
fat free half and half..... never could understand that one ~ha
part egg beaters and eggs enough to equal 5 eggs
spray the pie pan and pour mixture in and bake with out a crust... I have not done this but am going to try it some time

Note:  If you skim milk in place of the half and half it tends to not keep as well and gets watery easier.....

I don't really know if it goes down smoothe.... I made it for Debbie Darl'n when she came because I knew she could tolerate so many things....

If I was you I would wait till about 5 months out to try this... as it's pretty heavy. You seem to have difficulty with so many things..... maybe it will be something to look forward to?

Most people I have served it to sure seem to enjoy it.

I hope he likes it if you try it ...... Debbie Darl'n said she thought her family would like it too..... It sure is a hearty meal that for sure!  It would be good served with cornbread and some of that homemade apple butter.

Oh yeah on the apple butter.... I tried cooking the apples down and just mashing them with the potato masher but it was clumpy so I got out my ricer .....it really is not all that much to run them thru it.... have a bit more clean up but the apple butter is so smooth that way..... if you didn't mind it a *****unky you could skip the ricer part... I was just taught that way so I always do it....

Well I think I will get Tito and dive under the covers and try to get warm!  I'm so cold!  It's been fun chatting with you this evening...

Good night,
bec

Deb I cannot wait to try this---it sounds soooo yummy---I'm gonna try it without the crust.  I find that if it doesn't have crust or bread Im not tempted to eat it---if something has bread or crust I always end up eating a bite or two and regret it terribly in about 5 to 10 mins lol---so I've started trying to totally avoid any kind of bread or crust.  Thanks for the recpie
