Protein
Plateaus can happen after bariatric surgery. We have patients who won’t lose any weight for 8 weeks and then all of a sudden they’ll just drop 10 pounds. This usually happens because the body is adjusting to the dramatic changes that are happening and refuses to let go of any weight for a little while until it feels stable.
As far as protein, I would keep your intake to 65 to 80 grams of protein per day (too much can be harmful to the kidneys). The protein wouldn’t be causing the weight loss stall, but too many calories could be. At this point getting in 500 to 1,000 kcal per day is normal (although a 1,000 kcal per day usually happens closer to the 1 year post-op point.) Otherwise, continue to focus on getting protein in first and building the rest of your meals with vegetables, fruit, and maybe some starches, depending on where you’re at in the diet progression.
I do not get even 500 calories a day let alone a 1000,So no danger in going over the calorie deal.I thought i was doing good on protein intake But guess i was doing more harm than good.So i'm gonna back it off to just 69 grams a day.And start drinking water instead of tea,I can't stand chrystal light it is way to sweet for me. I do like the grape flavored G2 drink. If it is really cold.
If i don't start losing this weight soon I'm gonna climb up on the roof and jump off. LOL. I'm so round i would probably just hit the ground and bounce right back up there LOL.
If i wasn't following rules and walking, More active now than i have been in 10 years,I wouldn't be so upset .But when i'm trying so hard and nothing is working I get really irritated. This is where i need Bec's Concordance book,{look up anger}.Sometimes i wonder if they even did anything in there. Only time i know they did is when i try to eat meat, then i know yup something is rewired in there. I don't sip my drinks, haven't since i was able to start drinking fluids after surgery. I take drinks not sips.I lost weight faster on that nasty post op diet than i am now . Maybe i should just go back to that for awhile. But i'd rather chew my arm off than to have to drink those shakes and drink that broth. LOL.
Well just wanted to share what Abby had to say.Hope evryone has a great evening.
