Good morning everyone, I am having a big problem!! My pouch likes every food I put in it!!
Right now I feel like I have never had the surgery also I can eat a big plate full!!
I feel like hell because of it!!!
I haven't been able to exercise at all since my back surgery and I have been depressed I guess because of that and so I started eating cards and I know I shouldn't have but there it is!!
I am still having back pain, not as bad as before surgery but it is still there. So I am not even able to do house work like I need to!!

To top it all off Dennis can't eat anything without dumping!!!
He can't get protein down or even water, all he can keep down is a few sugar free popcicles a day!! He is losing weight so fast he looks sick and he is very weak not able to do his job like he is supposed to

I only got down to 179lbs but now I am back to 196lbs!!!!

Any suggestions would be helpful!!!!

Thank You Brenda & Dennis

Bless your heart Brenda, I have problems also, but have learned to keep something in my hands to sip on at all times and sometimes it has caffeine in it..
Try the fitday.com and see where you are getting off track, or do the 5 day pouch test everyone says that gets them back on track, if you want I will do it with you and we can help each other..

You have had allot to deal with, and haven't had time to take care of yourself, so start...

Dennis you have to get your protein and some water in or you will get sick, if you don't like the shakes both of you get you the vials for awhile they are expensive but one vial is 42 grams of protein they are just 3 Oz's in them ,its a fast way to get protein, I order them and they are a little cheaper and I keep them for when I cant get my protein in..

I am talking to my husband and we are going to have prayer for you... Just keep talking to us here and you all are not alone....love you...big Hug.....vesta

Hey Vesta,

Thank you so much for responding to my post.

I was a little ashamed to even post.

I only dumped two times that I can remember,

so I never really got off carbs like I should have.

We have been trying to use the protein from

Wal-Mart because of the lower price, but it just gags me.

I have ordered some of the ON cookies and cream.

I used it when I first had my surgery and it tastes pretty good

but it just is a lot more expensive.

My G-daughter Sydney that we practically raised is living with us yet

again, and she is having our Great G-Son in December, well she baby

sits a 3 year old and a 7 month old and there is kid food in the house

and it's hard to stay out of for me.

I remember when I had the surgery and I was so miserable from

being overweight but I guess the farther out in time

that I get from that I get compliance and let the old addictions

for food take over. And then also the depression.

I always thought that your stomach would never stretch back out

but now I believe it can because I don’t seem to have any restriction any more.

Thank you so much for your prayers, even though my husband pastors

a church and I am a preachers wife we forget sometimes that we need prayer too.

We are always praying for others needs and forget that we have need.

God Bless you and your hubby.

Love Brenda & Dennis

Brenda;

Hang in there and never be afraid to come to us. We all understand and have empathy for any troubles.

I have weeks where I think I can eat a lot also. I had put on about 20 lbs also. But, lately I cut out the carbs (not easy) and am losing weight again. I also started walking again. I know with your surgery you can't do much exercising so you need to do it with the carbs. As far as the kids and their snacks. You may have to issue a rule about carbs, they aren't good for them either and we do set the example and need to teach them how to not get in our positions. I keep very few carbs snacks around and my grandkids are OK with it and have cut them out of their diets at home also.

As far as Dennis, he is so early out and won't be able to eat that much. Just make sure he gets in his protein and water. Men always lose faster than women. LOL

Please don't ever be afraid to ask us anything, There is no dumb question or one that is not important. If it is important to you it is important to us. I think I can speak for most of us anyway.

Thank you Barbara for listening. I have got to decide for myself,
I know, if I want to continue to whine about it or get back with the program. I am going to start journaling and not just mindless eat.But sometimes as I am sure you know it's just a whole lot easier to give up.But my mom taught me anything worth having is worth fighting for.

Dennis right now is not able to keep protein or water down, as soon as he tries with just one sip then he's in the bathroom jagging and foaming.

Thank you for caring and God Bless You.

Brenda;
I was just wondering, is Dennis drinking straight tap water or is it iced? I had trouble with Ice water. I had to have room temp water. Strange isn't it? Also , I think in the beginning, it isn't all that important to drink the protein if it makes him sick. Remember, he just had major sugery and has alot of wounds inside, It needs time to heal. Have him try  to just barely sip like just one small drink every 15 minutes, that might work.

Hope he gets better.

Brenda....I hated reading your post....Im sorry you have this to deal with....You have nothing to be ashamed of!!!! Your not alone....Im still loosing but at a rate slow as a snail.....I to could do better if I stayed away from carbs....I love my Mr.Pibb and I don't eat like I should....I still can't eat alot but I could do soooo much better than I am and I know if I done as I should I could be loosing more.....I know that we are not the only two out there that are not staying on the straight and narrow....BUT ..We are the only ones that can fix it......
Is that any exercise at all you can do??? And maybe you could keep you seperate snacks or treats for when the urger is stronger than you.....Since your out farther than Dennis maybe you can try eating foods higher in protien to help get more in each day....
Has Dennis called anyone about how he is doing???
I will be praying for both of you....If you ever need to talk please give me a call....

Hey Tammy how in the world are you doing?
Thank you for caring about us!! It really never gets easy does it?And I still hate it when people say I took the easy way to lose weight!!!! If there is anything easy about it I'd like to know what it is!!! I am just going to have to get my butt off the pitty pot and dosomething about it!

I have not been released from my back surgeon yet on doing to much exercise, he says to walk for maybe 10 minutes and don't overdo. I sure hope when I go back to see him in November he will release me so I can start exercising again. And I pray that I can find something I can do without straining my back. I tell you what, a person don't know how much their back is involved in everything we do. God Bless you

Hi Brenda (and Dennis),

I have been wondering how you and Dennis are doing, so I am so glad to see you. I am so sorry that you are both having a rough time! I am so very sorry that you are still expriencing pain and I know that with constant pain-there can be depression-they go hand in hand! For what you have been through-its totally understandable!!

Barbara CAN speak for ALL of us-that IF its important to you-its important to us-for sure! I hope you will never feel too ashamed to talk to us-we all love you dearly! I too have times where I feel like I am eating more than I did before. I have done the 5 day pouch test once and re-did the steps-just to test my pouch and make sure I didnt stretch it out.

I had to re-vamp my diet because I just could NOT get enough protein in from food-something I was told, at 2 yrs out that I should be able to do-but there are weeks at a time where from food alone-there is just no way I could eat enough. I would literally have to eat ALL day long-and I cant do that. I ended up keeping track of my diet daily in my food journal again (something I thought I was done with) and then went back through it-and I ended up making out a menu-and keeping track of my protein intake and calories. I found out that I was not eating enough-not getting enough calories, for one-protein for another-so I upped my protein AND began MAKING myself eat more-and I started losing again. I wasnt trying to lose more-but was trying to get to where I was eating right and healthy again-and man-that IS hard!

I agree that ON IS one of the best tasting proteins that there is-there is a place on line called allstarhealth.com that sells the ON a lot cheaper than the health food stores, like GNC and those-I get mine at Food4Less....its half the price of the health food stores-in case you have one near you~

I have a hard time with the boys and their snacks too-I try and get things that are healthy for them as well as me, but its rare to please us both.

As far as Dennis-besides getting my shakes in, there were several months after my surgery that I lived on sf popsicles and tomato soup. I dumped on every single thing-EVEN those approved on my list-I didnt cheat-I just couldnt keep anything down. In the beginning it was just chicken broth made from bouillon cubes and then sf popsicles-and about 3 months out I could keep down tomato soup.

I know this probably wont be much help to you.....I wish I could do more! Did Dr. H agree to take Dennis as a pt? I bet he would be willing to give you some friendly advice when Dennis goes for a check up if he did. I dont personally know him-BUT...every single person that has had him, says he is one of the most caring, wonderful docs they ever had-I have yet to hear one single bad thing.....

Good luck! I will definitely keep you both in my prayers and I sincerely hope you will keep us posted. We sure miss you! Love, Janet

Hello Miss Janet, thank you for answering me!
I do need to try the pouch test. I’m sure I am not getting in the protein as much as I need. Thank you for the web site
we don’t have a food 4 less around here. I will check it out.
I guess I am just going to have the pain, if I do absolutely nothing
then I don’t have to much pain. But who can set around and do nothing?

I can’t!

We haven’t asked if Dr. H. would take him, we were hoping he would do fine and not have to see another doctor. It so far to have to drive for us 6 hours one way. But we may have to.

Dennis can’t keep any protein down.
Can’t get much water down either.
He’s pretty much living on SF Popsicles

I will try to post more but this yucky dial-up internet is the pits.

Thank you for caring.

Love Brenda & Dennis
