Looking for..
I know you all have walked that path ahead of me and I know the wisdom you have could help guide me as to whether this is something that is right for me. I am quite apprehensive about weightloss surgery...I'm 6'2 and 415lbs. I don't have diabetes ..thank you God...nor do I have high cholesterol...but I do have uncontrolled high BP and diabetes and heart disease run in my family. If anyone could give me some advice or point me to some info that helped them I would be extremely grateful :)

both procedures have their pluses and minuses.....lap band you lose the weight a lot slower and I havent met any (and i know there are some there..) yet that have lost down all of their weight they need to lose. on the other hand they dont have to worry about the malabsorbition issue, me i like that issue because it keeps so much fat from getting into the system of course it keeps some of the vits. and protein from getting into the system too. With the Gastric bypass you have to take vits and extra protein drinks in some form or the other the rest of your life. and the bad down side is that you may , or may not , dump on things that have too much sugar, too much fat, or you may dump because you ate too fast or didnt chew enough.
on the plus side with gastic bypass you dont have to keep going back to the doctor to get adjusted which all of them charge 100.00 a fill for that, that is one of the reasons i wanted GB instead of LB so i didnt have to get fills and that i didnt want some foreign object in my body...
and i had bad high blood pressure and since surgery i havent taken one b/p pill since.
my b/p now runs 110/60 most of the time...a young teenagers b/p
i went from tight 22s to a loose 10 and can get into 8s but because of the panni area and the skin there i prefer to use the 10s.
Oh by the way i was 65 when i had surgery and had no trouble at all...read my profile if you like....
i dont know where you live but if you live close to Springfield, i am the leader of a support group that meets every 4th monday of the month this month on the 27th at 6:30 pm at the Springfield Library on South Campbell.....if i can help you find anything let me know...there is all sorts of info here on this web site about the different surgerys. just start clicking around lol
hope you continue to come on here and talk to us there are some wonderful people on here that can answer a lot of questions....
If you decide on the lap band there are several really neat women on here that have had that procedure and can tell you more.
If you decide on the RNY (gastric bypass) then ask away either i or someone else can possible answer you....
