Ok so I have been MIA for a little bit. I had a mild stroke. I called my surgeon to see if I could take an aspirin a day and he said I could. So my question is can we take aspirin on a regular basis? For like headache? My back is killing me right now and I do not have any Tylenol on me but have aspirin, should I take it for every day aches and pains or should I not take more than one a day? I probably should know this by now and feel silly calling Dr.D's office this far out to ask a question I should probably already know the answer too. Thanks for any help!

oh my gosh Angela a stroke??? what happened.??? thank God that you are ok..
the aspirin he is talking about that you can take is the little baby aspirins or use to be baby aspirins... any way i have taken an aspirin when i didnt have anything else but i dont know about taking it on a routine basis....it is rather hard on the stomach when we have a big one and had all the juices .which we dont have now....
Hey no question is a dumb question and it shouldnt matter to your surgeon how far out you are, just never needed to know the answer before.... hope everything else is going good for you....

Thanks Jan, I knew you would be able to answer this for me. I am not really sure what happened. I was at a friends house and we were hanging out. I had a drink and was half way through another when I went unconsious and hit the floor. I came too and laid on her couch thinking the alcohol had been more than I could handle. Then I felt my left side go numb and my face began to droop. I could only drag my leg and my left arm was dead too. So she took me to the ER they did a blood alcohol screen and I had not even drank enough to be legally drunk so that was definitely not the problem. The CT came back normal. I was transferred to another hospital and was admitted. It was over Labor Day weekend so no tests could be run because the MRI folks were not in for the holiday. I had a seizure the day after the stroke. The MRI and heart test came back ok. So I was released as having had a mild stroke. The next friday the same thing occured while I was at work. I was drooping and my muscles were siezing so another weekend spent in the hospital. This was a different hospital and they diagnosed me with a seizure disorder and said I was too young to have had a stroke. So at this point all the testing has been normal. I am still having constant muscle spasms and jerking in my limbs at sporatic times throughout the day and night. The drooping is only when I exert myself more than I should and happens a lot less since I know my limits. I am continuing to see a neurologist and I am taking seizure medicine now. There are no real triggers so we are all pretty puzzled.

Angie please do NOT drink anything again,,,,it might have been that even tho it was a tiny amount that it did that to you....most doctors say we shouldnt ever drink again. I have checked a lot ot places and they also say NO drinking that it affects our neurological centers a lot more serverly than other peoples....

Oh, I am definitely not drinking anymore for sure. It was rare that I drink anyway and I know a little bit goes a long way with us now. My doctor said it was ok after a year, but I know now that it is not ok for me. So no worries there. Thanks for your concern though. I definitely learned my lesson the hard way!

So sorry to hear of your troubles and trials.

There was another person on here awhile back that did this exact same thing. Who was that Jan?

They talked about drinking a little and having the same type seizure and stroke like symptoms. I would think the alcohol would be something to look at.

Bless your heart and we will add you to prayer lists.

I was told by Dr d's office, NEVER any asprin under any cir****tances! So go figure???

My surgeon said no aspirin or Nsaids because they can cause ulcers.  I do take a baby aspirin daily.  Tylenol is worthless for me so if I have a headache I will take a couple of Advil but only once a day and not every day.

Too young to have a stroke?  Children have strokes so that was a strange comment.  My husband has had numerous strokes over the last 14 years.  About 10 years ago he kept having stroke symptoms and was finally diagnosed with seizures.  He takes Neurontin for them and hasn't had a seizure since.

Good luck to you and I hope you get this problem solved.
