1st appointment. Sleep test...

 I went to my first scheduled appointment today and I was glad to get it done.   Now the doc wants me to have a sleep test done.  My roommate is getting lapband at the same time that I am getting RNY, and he needs a sleep test as well.  Has anyone else done the sleep test?  What  should I expect,  and how long does it take?  My roomie is paying out of pocket, and asked me to see if anyone had an idea of a place he could go "on the cheap"?  

Also I didn't get put on a liquid diet yet and my roomie did.  Does everyone get put on a liquid diet, or only those over a BMI of 60?  

Right now they are submitting my paperwork to insurance (medicaid), and they said I should be approved in under 3 weeks.

do you and your roommate have the same doctor? the sleep test takes an over night visit to a sleep clinic...they didnt tell you this?  you go in and they hook you to all sorts of moniters and then you go to sleep with the moniters and a tv camera on you. they record what you do in your sleep.
liquid diets before surgery varies with doctors. some do them , some dont.

Dont have any idea where there might be a sleep clinic that would be cheaper than another but if he tells them he is self pay , and if it is cash sometimes they will bill him less.
