OT: I need help
I know that most of you that post here are from southern MO (Dr. H patients) but I do know a few of you lurkers are from the KC area also. I have a long story that I won't bore you all with here but I have recently been diagnosed with conversion disorder after 6 months of seizures and tests and hospitalization for a few days when I was informed that it is literally "in my head". Great. Now I need to find a therapist. The therapist I saw in the hospital has not returned my call for an appointment and since this is not directly related to WLS I prefer not to go to the therapist I saw pre WLS. My question for anyone here: Any recommendations for a good head dr. in the KC area? I do have some past issues that I obviously haven't completely dealt with or I wouldn't be having the seizures, headaches, insomnia etc. I appreciate your input. Thanks, Peggy
Peggy we have a lot of people from up in that area but i myself dont know of a therapist. maybe some of them will respond to you soon. lets hope so.

Jan,
Thanks....I lurk here a lot....several times a day, so I feel I know each and every one of you. So I honestly expected you to reach out. Thanks for that. (PS....I like your trike
)
I really have tried to keep all of this way back but for some reason it has all manifested in seizures and my poor husband is losing his mind. I guess I have got to find somebody to talk to but part of me doesn't want to reha**** all, especially when I thought I had already dealt with it all. Shows what I know. Thanks again for your concern.

i think most of us have lots of baggage to deal with in our lives. I had lots of old baggage myself to have to deal with, i think it has a lot to do with my getting fat in the first place, sort of protection so to speak.
i will be praying for you to find someone that you feel like you can talk to and to help you lay those things to rest. I did a lot of praying and decided to lay it all at Jesus feet ...he took it away and now i no longer carry it around all the time.
take care of yourself and forgive yourself that is the first step. most of the time you are carring around guilt that should be place on someone else...love and hugs. Jan

Tell you what....
If it weren't for my relationship with Christ I would've given up long ago. He obviously wants me to continue to deal with these issues until I can lay them at His feet and walk away. I thought I had but I guess not. I have learned that I have a very rebellious nature so I usually get to work on things a little longer than most. But that's ok because then I get to help others who have issues. It's just that this time I'm a little (ok, a lot) over my head and it's going to take more than I can do on my own. I need help because it has been a rough few years, in addition to all the usual stuff we've all dealt with in the past. I am no more special in that respect. I do appreciate all your outpouring of support. I admit I have been a little jealous of the bond on this board but I realize now that it is truly open to one and all. Thanks again.

Hi Peggy....
Where did you have your WLS? I am having mine at Shawnee Mission Medical and had to see a phyc dr. not sure if he sees other than WLS patients, but I think he does... he seems like a nice gentle man... I would be glad to give you his name don't know if it would help you or not.... I guess it would be worth a try... I have not seen him other than for WLS approval... let me know if you are interested and I will look up his information.
I'm so sorry you are having these difficulties and sincerely hope you are able to work thru them!

Bec....
Had mine at SMMC with Dr. Hoehn right at 3 years now. (Just noticed that my profile has been erased and my picture is about 50 pounds ago so...I started out at over 350 and had lost over 175# then my thyroid stopped working this time last year so I had to have it removed and I am still trying to get the meds for it regulated so I can't seem to lose the 20 or so I gained back when it shot craps...oh well...one of these days. At least I am back under 200 and am still off of all my diabetes meds, high blood pressure meds and CPAP machine. WLS saved my life)
I saw Dr. Sabapathy also but I think he is strictly WLS only that is why I am searching for another therapist in this area.
Thanks for your reply and congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

Peggy,
Sounds like you had many of the same physical health issues that I have.... I'm looking forward to a resolve to most of my issues too...
How was your WLS experience there? Were you happy with your choice of surgeon and hospital?
Congratulations on the 175 lbs lost! That's fantastic!!!
I wish you the very best in finding the help you need...

Bec,
I could not be happier with Dr. Hoehn and SMMC. The hospital has a bariatric unit and I had a private room. It was great. If you have met with Dr. Hoehn, I'm sure you've noticed he seems rushed. He is just busy. If you have questions, he will make sure that everything you have will be answered. I have warned him tho that he needs to slow down. He is running on empty since he is one of the best in KC and he has so many patients that I worry about losing him to burnout. He also performed my thyroid removal last September.
I was on 3 diabetes meds plus 70 units of insulin, 3 blood pressure meds and a CPAP and came home on half the insulin, only one of the bp meds and the CPAP. By the end of the first month I was off the bp med and I took myself off the insulin by the end of the 6th week. When I found myself taking off the mask at night, I quit the CPAP too. I haven't quite reached the goal I set for myself but I am sooooo much better than I was. I'm over 40, 5 foot 2 (on a good day)
so I was a little slower than others. That was hardest for me, I had to learn not to compare. Especially when I would go to meetings and so and so would lose 50 pounds in a week (or so it seemed) and I would fight just to lose 10 that month. But it was worth it and I would do it again. I am sure you will resolve most, if not all, of your issues. You seem prepared and well researched and ready to work hard. That is my biggest pet peeve. People who go into this and then ask if they can eat steak at 3 weeks out! Research, research, research. Good for you.
Now since I know what has caused the seizures, I need to get back to the gym and maybe that will get my weight loss going again. But I need to find a good head doc, too, so maybe I can get rid of these headaches and get some sleep. This has been hard. But thanks for your concern.
