I found these at walmart and they taste wonderful!!!! Do you think it would be ok to take them? Here is the comparison for 1 of each one.

Flintstones                                     Viativ Chewables
vit a 3000                                          2500
C 60                                                        60
D 400                                                    400
E 30                                                            33
B1  1.5                                                       1.5
B2  1.7                                                       1.7
niacin 15                                                   15
B6 2                                                               2
folic acid 400                                            400
b12  6                                                            6
bioten    40                                                 30
pantothenic acid  10                                   10
calcium 100                                                200
sodium  10                                                  25

Flintstones has iron, phos, iodine, mag, zinc, copper, and choline which are trace minerals that the Viactiv doesn't have.

seems like the viativ vits have more except for the trace    i would chew one in the morning and one in the evening tho. neither one has as much as they really need.
and later on you can add the trace stuff if you are deficient in it. your first vit. screening should tell you a lot. and you need to do that at 6 months

if the calcium doesnt say citrate then it probably is caltrate which we cant have.  and all of Viativ that i have seen is caltrate calcium....they taste great shame we cant have them ....but someone said wal mart does carry a chewable calcium in citrate....i think they are in a sack...instead of a box. im going to look the next time i am there. .....

Here's the quick on Viactiv calcium.  It is indeed calcium carbonate.  This will not hurt you after a bypass; unfortunately it will likely not help you either.  Latest research on patients post-bypass shows that calcium CITRATE is the only isotope reliably absorbed from the stomach in the absence of stomach acid.  And guess what, gang?  Your stomach pouch, by virtue of its small size, is pretty much devoid of acid.  So, without acid from the stomach, calcium carbonate cannot be effectively "broken down" in the GI tract, and so it passes harmlessly, but without benefit, in the stool.  Hope this helps!  Sincerely, Phillip Hornbostel, M.D.

Dr. Hornbostel? If you are still monitoring - - - We got sidetracked on the calcium Viactiv's, but what do you think about the chewable multivitamin's that viactiv makes? The comparison is in my first post on this topic. It tastes so good and not critty and nasty like the flintstones. They don't have any of the trace minerals in them, but is that ok? Thanks Liz

the vitamins look okay pretty much--if a patient developed odd skin problems or new digestive issues, would worry about lack of trace minerals.  Better than not taking anything, that's for sure!
