St anthony's med ctr - urgent info needed
Hi all! I'm from NC and need some midwest help. My best friend, who is still exploring getting surgery, was just taken (like an hour ago) to St. Anthony's Med Ctr south of St Lous because as she turned while standing in her kitchen, she heard a crack and felt extreme pain in her thigh. She fell to the floor and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
I need to know if this is a bariatric friendly facility and if you have any other wisdom to add.
all info is helpful right now. you can post here or write me at robin.weber @ bww.com
thank you!
happy losing!

St. Anthony's does not have a bariatric program. It's a good hospital, just not a bariatric hospital. A couple of the hospitals in the metro area that do have bariatric programs are St. Alexius, DePaul and DesPere. There are probably a couple more that just aren't coming to mind right now.

Thanks Julie!
She's going to be going in for surgery tomorrow (at St. Anthony's) to have a rod put in her thigh bone (it broke about 2 inches below the ball joint.) Do you (or does anyone) know if St. Anthony's is large people friendly, ie., do they have beds, chairs, etc. to accomodate larger folks?

I would say they will do everything to accomodate your friend. But as a rule I don't think those things are readily available to the general public. Unlike the hospital where I had my RNY. Every waiting room I went in had the really wide chairs and the hospital bed had the air matress thingy, oversized hospital gowns, etc.
My husband was at St. Anthony's for a total of 25 days in the course of a year in 2006. He was on the orthopedic floor and had a total of 7 surgeries because he developed staph in his prothetic knee. He was not in the hospital when he developed the staph. The knee replacement was 6 years old. Anyway, he had great doctors and we could not have asked for better care. I stayed with him day and night and the staff were also very accomodating to me.
Do you know who your friend's surgeon will be?? A good doc makes all the difference.
