Jen ~ this was a great great recipe!!! I loved it!!!  here was my experience with it.....

I tried this recipe this morning.... I had to make a few changes because I did not have powered milk....

Jen's Recipe
1 pk carnation instant breakfast chocolate no sugar added
1 scoop vanilla whey powder protein
1/3 carnation powder milk
8 oz skim milk
3 ice cubes
1 heaping tbl of peanut butter

blend and drink!  Tastes like a peanut butter cup shake

This is what I used..... and the calorie and protein counts:

Bec's Version ~ (because I did not have powered milk)
1 pk carnation instant breakfast chocolate no sugar added
  60 calories   5 grams protein
1 scoop vanilla whey powder protein
  120 calories  24 grams protein
8 oz skim milk
  75 calories  8 grams protein
2 tbl of peanut butter
  180 calories  7 grams protein
ice cubes

I put this in my blender and used enough ice cubes to make shake consistency...... it was fab~u~la~tas~tic!!!!

Total  435 calories and 44 grams of protein !!!

That's alot but if you drank half at one time and half another it would be good for two meals.....?  I drank the whole thing not realizing the count until after I drank.... if I do it again I will divide it and get two shakes out of it..... maybe add another scoop of protein powder and then freeze the other half for later in the day?

Jen, I hope you get it to work for you so you can enjoy it!!! It is a great recipe!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!  Thanks so much and glad you liked it!  I swear I had everyone here try it and by the time my cup got back to me it was almost gone!

I drank some reg milk last night and had NO issues!  The P butter does not bother me.  If I can do reg milk then the powdered milk should not be the problem.  Sooooooo must be the carnation instant bf??  Thats okay though because i also have chocolate flavored protein powder.

I start mine out to be 8 oz but after all the additions it is much more and I can only drink half, so I usually split on with my son.

I am working on a rootbeer float tasting one now.  Have not perfected it yet but will let you know.

You know I sat down today and broke down all the items in it trying toi figure out what was making me sick.  And holy cow it ads up to alot of sugars.  I figured because my NUT gave use the basic recipe (without p butter and vanilla) that it would be okay.  However the instant breakfast has 7 ggrams of sugar and the milk will have slot too depending on which one you use.  So I am quite positive that is my issue.  I will try it without the instant BF and use some chocolate protein powder I have and see how it tastes.  I also wanna do one with banana flavor.  I would use real banana but they are higher in sugars.

I forgot to say I added a couple a packets of Splenda to this recipe and for me being pre~op it sure added that extra sweet taste to make it more like candy!!!

Sorry I left that out.... maybe you post op's will not need the extra sweet since so many say things taste too sweet anyway?

Jen, I am still hoping you find a way to enjoy it... makes those shakes go down so much easier if you like them!
