this is the address to check on the licensing status of any licensed professional in the state of Missouri.  It will also show you the professionals who have had their license revoked. It does not give past disciplinary information if the licensee has ever had any "issues" though.  It is a good reference tool to make sure that any licensed professional that you might use (whether physician or not) is really who they say they are.  Pretty cool info.

The following website can be used to see the status of any court case regarding someone in the state of Missouri.

I found the State Healing Arts website but couldn't find any reviews or other useful info on there.  I'm just plain missing it.

I, too, had Dr. de la Torre for my Lap RNY and never met the man.  I met him in one of the classes held at his office, though, and trust that he knows what he's doing.  It just seems odd that I never met him.  His office staff at Missouri Bariatrics in Columbia, though, is wonderful and supportive and the doctors there that I have dealt with have been very professional and warm and helpful.

I had ReunY in January with Dr. delatorre and was really happy with him. I also did a bunch of research and found that he was one of the best. His bedside manner was not bad, but he did not hold my hand or anything.

However, I have the opposite opinion of Dr. Hornbostel. I know alot of people around here like him, and he may be the greatest thing since sliced bread being nice and all. However, when I was sitting there in the waiting room in Columbia, I was talking with everyone else. Three people were waiting in there for an appointment because they all had surgery with Hornbostel and needed to have revision surgery...and were going to Dr delatorre for that.

I heard the University does surgery for people that no one else will do surgery for. Does Dr. Hornbostel do revision surgeries for his own patients? Apparently not for the three people in that there waiting room. Anyway, maybe it was just those three.
I like Dr. delatorre so take that for what its worth.

I met with Dr. De La Torre at my pre-op class, and had a 1 on 1 appointment with him as well. He also came in and talked to me and my family before I went into the OR and then talked to my family when I was in recovery. To say he did not remember me the next day is true, and it is because my chart was not in front of him when my Mother ran into him on the elevator and asked him if I would be released. So although he did not recognize my name and my mother's face I did not take it completely personally. He did 5 other surgeries the day he did mine. I consider him to be very competant, knowledgeable and I did not just "settle" with him for convenience. I researched many doctor's and had him picked out long before he had an office close to my home. I would definitely chose the doctor you feel comfortable with. I felt 100% comfortable and at ease with Dr. De La Torre. I had some minor complications but he was very fast to recognize the issue and resolve them. I would definitely do your research and would definitely have to meet my surgeon before I let them cut me open and do such a serious procedure.
