I'm Still Kickin' but . . .

I feel like poo.  I got released from the hospital yesterday probably about 2:30-3pm, stopped at the pharmacy & got all my Rx's filled, so we left the hospital around 3:30 & got home around 8 or 8:30.  The trip home wasn't too bad, I slept most of the way except when we stopped for me to walk.

My roommate also had gastric bypass on Tuesday right before me, & by the time I got back to my room she was awake & looked great.  I was so druged out of my head I couldn't stay awake to talk to anyone for any length of time.  I promised Lori that I would call & check on her when I got out, but I was so out of it I asked Lynn to call her.  She had her surgery earlier in the morning & said she was doing alright.  We (my roommate & I) weren't allowed any fluids yet Tuesday  only the little pink sponge swabs & said that they would bring in the Metheline Blue Wednesday morning.  The nurses & techs were in every 1/2 hour checking something Tuesday night, my sugar got up to 24? something & they were ready to give me insulin, but the ck'd w/ the doc & she said if it got above 250 then they would give me a n injection of insulin.  That was weird because my sugars have NEVER been that high & I was only on IV fluids at the time.    But luckily they came down.

Wednesday morning they brought us the Metheline Blue.  Let me just tell you one thing.  This blue crap was THE worst tasting stuff I have ever had.  Imagine sucking the ink out of 10 ink pens, yeah, it was worse than that.  All of Dr. Hornbostles patients, you are so lucky that you don't have to do this test.  After we drank this stuff,  they checked our drains, we were allowed our clear liquids.  BUT, everytime I drink something I feel bubbly in my chest & feels like I have a huge burp bubble needing to come out & it can't.  I'm not sure if this is normal or what.  While in the hospital the gas got up under my ribs & collar bone & in my back.  That hurt sssooooo bad.  So I walked & walked & walked until my legs hurt & I walked some more.  I was just so weak, I didn't feel like I could go very far, but I really pushed myself to try to get rid of that gas.  I asked about GasX strips at our pre-op class & they said that it wouldn't help so I didn't take any.  If I had it to do over again I would definitly take them, anything to help.  It was terrible pain.  I still have a little up under my collar bones but nothing like it was.  As far as the surgery itself, I am sore, but not terrible.  Kinda walking around like a stiff old woman, but that's getting better everday.  I've said before that I can't take Morphine or Codeine,  well this hospital finally listened to me, they gave me something called Hydromorphone, apparently it has morphine in it, but it didn't bother me at all.  Thursday morning they came & got us & took us for our gastrogram or whatever it's called. Had to drink 3- 1 oz shots of a clear liquid.  It wasn't good, but wonderful compared to the blue stuff.  lol  Then when we got a good report from that we were able to be released from the hospital.  That took a while, our doctor (a bariatric fellow I guess) had clinics then would be back to see us, so it was 2:30 probably before she got back to us.

Well, I'm gonna get off of here, I am tierd & hurt.  Thank you everyone for your good thaughts & prayers.  I hope all of the other girls are doing well.

Love ya all!!!  Angy

Glad you are doing well.  The gas-x strips do work omg!  I spent 3 horrible days in gas pain because they told us they don't work.  Maybe the pills but the strips do!  I feel 200% better today and even got out on my own and ran errands.  Keep in touch with your progress.

Hi Angie

The nurses at the university wouldn't let me take the gas x either. I told them I had some and they said DO NOT take anything that wasn't approved by my doc.... I wasn't in alot of pain from the gas though. Just the darn drain....
I will get to meet you Thursday because my 6 week check up is thursday...and anyone else that is there.  Thats exciting....

That is strange that they told you not to take gas-x strips, I had the same Dr and he said I could take them after surgery....hum!?

Glad it is done and you are improving.

I have to be there at 8 also..The class last an hr or two, I can't remember. and then you have to go see the nurse and get weighed and then I saw natalie to get my drain out..I think I was there until about noon..

I never ask the doc if I could take the gas x, but I told the nurse I had them and she said not to take anything. But like I said I never had alot of gas pain..

Welcome home Angy!!!!  So glad to hear everything went well.  I think the gas was the worst part for me too.  I had it really bad in my back.

Hang in there and continue to sip, rest, walk and repeat.

Welcome to the loser's bench!!

Glad you are doing well Angy! I had the same feeling with the burps that would never come out but it does pass. Everything you described sounds normal, and like what I went through. I had to do the blue dye test also and it stained my teeth and lips, did it stain yours? Oh it took forever to get that blue crap off. My son who was 3 at the time came up to see me after I had the dye test and I was all blue and he was crying and scared of me and wouldn't come near me. I tried to tell him I had been kissing a smurf but he wasn't buying it.  You will feel better everyday and you will love your new life!
