Hi all
Hello everyone. My name is Anna. I am 25 years old, married and live in knob noster, mo. Today after a doctors appointment i have decided after a year of debating to make an appointment to get the ball rolling on my surgery. My husband and I have been trying for almost 4 years to have a baby and now have realized why we can not concieve. It's me. So, I have made an appointment with my PCM and got the date for the next seminar in sedalia. It's nice to meet all of you. I am definately looking for some support here. My husband is a big supporter but since he is active duty air force I have no support from family because they are all so far away and they all don't approve of me having surgery anyways. So thanks for reading my rambling!
WELCOME ! You'll find great support here. Many many friendly and knowledgable people, I live quite away from sedalia around 3 hr.s and no support groups (that I know of) anywhere close enough that I could go. anyhow these people here have been lifesavers so many things that dr.s don't tell you ,"the old timers" (sorry peeps lol) know and share. BTW when is the next seminar in sedalia?(my son is interested) Feel free to ask to your hearts content , good luck, Susan
Anna welcome to the MO> board. we are really glad to have you hear. and you have picked the absolute best Surgeon in the world. lol of course im a little partial ....You are so smart to get this done while you are young and not have to live a life of obesity. I just had mine done two years ago and i havent regretted one minute of it. Is it easy ? NO , does it take a lot of time to get it all right ? YES> There is a certain amount of water, protein , and calories you have to have and it is like walking a tight rope all the time to maintain those levels...You will always have to take in protein drinks the rest of your life, (some people dont think so ) and will always have to take vits. but both are a small price to pay for all the rewards. ....and you never know when you get the weight off , you might just surprise yourselves with a baby. dont mean it will fix something that is wrong but i have heard of girls that lost the weight and became pregnate ....
never feel like you are rambling. continue to post with us. I do a daily post and feel free to post to that if you want to. welcome and hope you will be with us for a long time to come.

I am not sure I can be a lot of help as of yet as I am still learning myself, however should you ever need a shoulder or a answer I may acually have I'll gladly help all I can!!! You did come to the right place, the folks here are the VERY best!!!
Best of luck on your journey, very nice to meet you and hope to get to know you better soon!!

Welcome Anna! There is a bunch of us Air Force wives from Whiteman who have had RNY. This board has been a God send to me! Never be afraid to ask questions...this is where I learned so much (I am still learning - I am 3 1/2 months out now). I have also made some wonderful new friends! Dr H. also has posted from time to time. He is the best! You are not alone!

Hi Anna,
While I'm not a "newbie" to the board ~ been reading for nearly two years now, I'm about to be a "newbie" to the surgery ~ Sept. 22!
All these that have posted before me are right! This is a great place to "listen" and learn and find answers to some of your questions!
Welcome! I pray you have a wonderful experience here!

Anna-Banana,
Welcome to the Missouri board. This is a wonderful place whether you had surgery two years ago or recently or are anticipating your surgery date or are just waiting to get the ball rolling. There are the warmest most loving, praying, caring women/men on this board that you can ever imagine. Don't feel bad that your family isn't supportive. They love you and are afraid for you to have surgery - it's pretty natural. However, you have your reason and also are an adult and this is your decision and no one else can make it for you. Feel free to come to the board with any and all questions - there will be someone who understands and cares even if they don't have the total answer. There are many different surgeons represented here but Dr. Hornbostel is the only one I've ever seen actually post on here. He's amazing. I had Dr. Edwards in Springfield and adore him but Dr. H is renowned. As Jan has said, you are so lucky to be having this life-changing surgery so young. You will be able to live the rest of your life as a normal-weight person and your health will be so much better. I'm going to be honest and tell you that it gets harder and harder the further you are from the surgery - but if you start with good habits and follow your doctor's rules (the white binder you'll someday own) you will be successful and have laid the groundwork to eat more sensibly for the rest of your life. If you smoke, quit now!!! If you drink soda, quit now!!! It is so much easier to get some of the bad habits under control long before surgery. You will find that your taste changes so much that you may not even miss sugary soda after surgery. I sure don't!!! However, carbs still call my name - the white carbs - white bread, white pasta, white rice, white sugar, white potatoes, white flour. If you can start gaining control over those things now it just puts you ahead of the losing game. Good luck and keep coming back. We really do care about you.
Love and hugs,
Lana
