SClEROTHERAPY
I have a friend that had this procedure done approx. 6 months ago and it has not done a thing to help her out. Dr. Scott was the one that did the procedure for her.
She had GBS years ago and lost a bunch of weight and has kept that off but had alot left to lose (she was severely super morbidly obese prior to WLS).
She is now just going to accept herself for the weight that she is at. She said that she will not pursue any other types of treatments at this time...

Thank you for the info I am really debating if I should have this done or not. I had Rny Jan 2002. I just went through the Restore trial back in Dec. and my suctures did not hold I just don't want to fail again. I really would like to have an extended RNY done but Dr. Scott wants to do this first he said the other would be too risky because of the way my original surgery was done. I will have you and your friend in my prayers.
I had written a detailed post and then I clicked and it was POOF gone!... all it took was my smiley!
I had meant to tell you that my friends original dr. was Dr. Fabito (but he is retired now)... she had undergone testing much like you have and Dr. Scott did not want to go the revision route, citing much the same as he had said to you.... She wasn't too keen on the idea but she went along with it.
She has told me that she could not tell one little bit of difference that it made...
I had also gone on to say that I had looked into possibly getting this done (won't do it now since all I have heard about it is negative ) since I battle with severe swings on my blood sugar due to my food emptying too soon directly into my intestines. I haven't had a tight restriction from the gitgo... the only foods that give me any sense of a full feeling are very VERY dense meats.
I have done alot of research and I believe that my sugar swings are directly related to the premature emptying directly into my gut so the only fix would be to somehow tighten the area in question. As for weight... I have reached goal and have maintained so weight loss is not the kicker for me (although it would be a big bonus to loose another 10 lbs. or so! *s*) ...my main focus is to be painfree after eating and not to feel so woozy and out of it after eating. These sugar crisis' suck bigtime...

This therapy is an accepted treatment for an enlarged stoma after having initial WLS. It causes scarring/irritation to the tissues in the stoma area, thereby "shrinking" the opening and tightening it. It is injected during an endoscopic procedure directly into the tissues surrounding the stoma area.
I myself know of only one person that has had it (she is a very dear friend of mine) and she was not pleased with the results. She said that she could not tell one iota of a difference. In researching I have come across a mixed bag of success with most folks NOT having good results.

This is ONE of the accepted methods to treat an enlarged stoma. Another procedure out there that I know of is called Stomaphyx. This uses a fastener to actually "grab" up a section (done on both sides of the stoma) whereas a fold is done and fastened with this barb type fastener (reminds me of a clothing hangtag barb) This will then reduce the size of the stoma by making a flap type opening (done with the barbs)..
Google stomaphyx and it will bring up some sites that actually show the procedure with comp. aided images.
