Ok. I knew that my hair would probably fall out, but this much?! my whole back is covered all the time! I run my hand down and it seems like clumps come out, maybe 20 strands at a time. when I take a shower i clog the drain. I know up until last month I was only getting about half of the required protein, because I tried to be slick and get 60g in one hour long drink a thon, i hate the protein!, I am now getting in 2 30 g drinks a day, plus probably another 15g with stuff I eat-drink. I am taking 2 theragran multi vit's, 2 b complex , and 4, 500mg b-12. each day , (I have been out of my calcium for a week, picking more up wed). what should I be doing differen't? is there another vit. I could add to make it better? how long before it stops shedding? my hair wasn't to thick to begin with, I guess when I packed on 150 lb.s my head got to fat for my hair to cover it!! lol, but it's the truth, I used to have really nice and thick hair before i balloned.  please any suggestions would be great, i'm getting really worried and upset now.

This totally scares me, I had my surgery on the 31st and have not noticed much hair loss yet.  I think it is just the protein and such, there is a vit called biotin that I know we can take.  How did you get your b-12 in a tablet?  I thought we had to take it by injection only?  I have seen a sub-lingual form but not that large a dose in a tablet.  hope I help a little.

Blessings,

the only thing i can tell you is that you are going to have to get in more more more protein. find something that you do like. like the isopure . What protein are you using? Powder? put it in s.f. puddings, put it in coffee make a coffee drink that taste like cappachino. you are going to have to use your imagiation and brain to get the stuff in. I make up a big one in the morning and keep it in the ref. with protein powder and flavored water like crystle lite. add water to it to hunt till you find a flavor you like with it. I even use koolade without any sugar make up a pitcher with some splenda and pour 8 oz into a glass and add a scoop of my protein  keep it in ref. and every time i go past i take a sip and put it back in the ref. that way i dont think of it too much and by the time the day is over i have drank my 3 protein drinks. I use strawberry cause that is my favorite flavor.
if your is grape try that make you a pitcher of grape koolade with splenda and mix with your protein mix....let it get good and cold. or even put ice in it. ....like i said you are going to have to get creative ...you have to have protein. there never was a question about it before you had surgery it isnt an option you have to get it in some way.

I do have the powdered protein it is the syntax fruit nectar, ive been mixing it with my diet lipton green tea, at least the carribean cooler kind it's kind of bland. The b-12 I got at walmart, it is a round pill that turns to powder if you don't swallow it quick! I'm not sure how much b-12 we are supposed to have the dosage on the bottle say's 500 mg = to 8333% of daily value, I ve been taking that amt. X 4, so it should be enough. What does the biotin do? is that not in the b complex? and Jan I know I need my protien NOT AN OPTION , but I thought 75 g a day would be enough? it's not? do you know how long the hair loss lasts as a general rule? thanks peeps!

Susy,
I think the hair loss will stop pretty soon. I think it starts about 3-5 months out and lasts 2 months or so. I don't really remember exactly but know almost everyone says theirs grows back OK. Mine was terribly thin before surgery but I still lost hair and then suddenly noticed this halo of 2" long hair where it was growing back. I have worn wigs for a few years so it's never been a big concern to me. I recommend that you cut your hair so it looks fuller and then when it starts growing back there isn't such a big gap between the long and the new. Just my opinion. This too will pass. I take b12 sublingual and I was taking one every day and cut back because when I went for my one year labs mine was high - not dangerous just wasting pills. I also take a b-complex and that adds some B.
Good luck - I use unflavored AnyWhey from GNC and I put two 17g scoops in the blender with ice, water and a single serve of Crystal light - today was lemonade and I swear it tasted like lemon pie!!!
Hugs,
Lana

They told me to add zinc to my regimine of vitamins, and everything else your taking looks right except the B-12 is probably excessive. Protien grows hair and we need extra...I would be aiming for at least 80 grams plus your food intake...I also agree with Jan, get it in someform of liquid, keep trying until you find something tolerable that you wont mind using. The hair will start coming back in at around 2-3 months after you started losing it. I lost so much and it upset me too. But it will come back. Hang in there!

Hi, my hair has been coming out like crazy for 3 months, went for my 6 month checkup today, and my zinc was low, so I was told to add Zinc 50 mg daily and also another protein shake :)  He said it is *mostly* protein, that is the MOST important factor.. He told me to add one in the evening and i would definitely notice a difference.. i hope so, and i am glad i had a lot of hair to start with.. may still need a wig..

my hair loss started at 3 months out
if I do not maintain my protien it still falls out.....
so like Lana suggested I cut my hair short and layered it....I also quit using Blonde hair coloring on it...the lighter looking the hair...the thinner and unhealther it looked...so Im now a light ash brown. it looks better.
I had great hair for 44 yrs....and as much as I loved my long hair...I am loving the new me more.
hair is a very small price to pay to be healthy and LIVING!
someday I have hopes for it to be long and full like it used to be...but for now Ill just be short and sassy!
through protien drink and bars I get about 80 grams of protien that my body can asorb and through the food I eat about 20 or 30 more I count that as half since the body doesnt absorb that kind of protien as well.
I take 2 capsuls of Biotin a day 5000mcg each....does it help???  I dont know but it sure dont hurt!

good luck with your hair issues....I think loosing the hair was worse on me emotionaly speaking then not being able to eat what and how much I wanted to. but like I said before....to me it IS worth it.....
even if I have to get a wig ...LOL ....Lana I never knew that about you!  how much fun do you have each day...not only deciding which cute outfit to wear but cute hair too!
