Hi everyone!  I am concerned about something very important to me. I have heard that there have been more patients that are on Medicaid or medicare which ever, that the death rate is higher with medicaid patients. Have you all heard anything about this and if so what is your view?  I have BCBS plus Medicaid .  Of course only Medicaid is paying for the surgery.  This is something that I really would love to hear back on.  Thanks .

I understand your doubts but some really good surgeons take care of medicare and medicaid patients, im hoping you will hear from more to set your mind at ease

Jan,

I am so glad to hear feedback from you. Its just that when I heard that the death rate was higher in medicaid and medicare patients, It scared me to death. I have medicaid.

There can be so many factors with this question.  First because it is Medicare, Medicaid it could be because of age or other health issues that caused the death rate to be higher.  Most of us are on Disability for a reason,...I have both and I also have cancer and if it hadn't been for me having WLS they would of never found out I had it.  So your research is good but you just have to look at the boarder view, it isn't just black an white, there are lots of gray areas too.
The best research is looking at all the surgries and then looking at the profiles of as many people from each surgery group you can possiblly stand. I hope this helps you with what your asking.

Marylin and Nene,

Thank you both for answering my posting. I do feel better about this now and I believe you all have shed some light on this for me. I start my 2 week liquid diet tomorrow and so that means RNY is only 2 weeks away. I pray that God will be with me and helps me do as well as other people and he makes me strong and aware of everything that I have to do and understand.

Again thanks.

Good luck with your surgery and I will pray for you a speedy recover.  I know it is scary and all but if you have done your research you will know exactly what is going to happen to you and what you have to do after.  The after care is very important and labs, along with all your supplementals.  Wish you the best.
