23 lbs. down!!

As of this morning I'm 23 lbs. down.  I "shopped" in my closet yesterday and found many things I haven't worn in a long time but are still in style.  Today I noticed my tummy is farther away from the stearing wheel.  DH compliments me every day on the changes and he is so proud of me for sticking with it all those months to get to this point.

I'm still having problems eating.  Just can't tolerate cottage cheese or eggs.  I've tried both 3 times and this morning the egg came up.  The other times the CC and eggs stayed down but I had that feeling they were ready to come up.  Last night I made the mistake of drinking too soon after eating and the iced tea was still cold when it came back up.

Fruit is tasty and I've had no problem digesting it.  I bought bananas, watermelon and peaches today.  Really having a tough time getting in protein.  I did buy Atkins bars yesterday with 12 grams of protein and had no problem eating one.  I have a recipe I got here for Peanut Butter Balls  and it sounds great but I'm afraid to make it and then won't like it.  I also have the recipe for Ice Cream that some seem to like a lot.  The protein mixes I have taste horrible now.  I bought a soy protein at GNC and it's nasty too.  Mixing some unflavored protein in Crystal Lite is okay.

Monday I go back to work and I'm dreading it a little.  I feel like I'll be on display with people who know I had this surgery wondering how much I'm lost.  Will I look different to them?  How will I handle all the questions?

you are doing really great with the weight loss you have had  but i hate to tell you that the protein i not an option it is a must. you have to find one that you can tolerate and get your protein in or you will start getting sick, I know a lot of people say that they love this protein or that one but it isnt a matter of whether you love it or not. If you can tolerate it or not. if you can do the unflavored protein in crystal lite then that is what  you need to do right now. Your goal is to get at LEAST 60 grams a day and less than that is not enough. I know you are early out but you need to quit telling yourself that you cant stand this or that and bite the bullet and just d. o it. Please we love you and want for you the best , as far as questions are concerned just answer them to the best of your knowledge...Most people are only interested and dont mean to be mean or pry,. love and hugs.

I do know the protein is really important.  My surgeon's team really stresses that.  I handle cheese really well, LF string cheese and hard cheese.  I know I will feel better if I get the protein in.  Still feeling tired a lot.   The dietician thinks I should be eating 2 oz. of protein at each meal plus one shake a day.  I'm not able to eat that much protein at a meal so I promise to work on getting in the 60 grams  in other ways.

I did make the Peanut Butter Balls and they are very good....10-12 grams of protein in a serving.  I have a bullet with 40 grams of protein.  I WILL use half of it today.  Dietician said no more than 20 grams at a time.

Someone suggested unflavored protein powder in 3 oz. of water and some Crystal Lite.  I will try that.  The GNC lady told me to "bite the bullet" and gulp it down.  We know we do not gulp.  The thing about having something in my mouth that doesnt smell or taste good is I will gag and vomit.

Hi Jo
I had my surgery on July 7 and like you I can't stand the smell of the protein powder, what I did was get some unflavored protein at GNC and I mix 1 scoop (21 grams protein) in 3 oz water add just a little crystal light ( I use fruit punch) and I drink 3 of these a day. The protein powder dissolves really well and that is 63 grams of protein. It doesn't smell like the other protein powder and has very little taste. Good luck...

Beverly, I'll have to try your suggestion.  I did mix a package of unflavored protein in a tall glass of Crystal Lite and it was just awful.   Maybe GNC's unflavored protein is better than what I have from Unjury.

As Jan said it so very important to get in the protein.  Since we can't gulp it down and be done with it, how do you get it down?  I don't mean to whine but if I drink too fast I get that pain in my chest and it may come up.  Your surgery was only a day before mine so we should be on the same track.

I have to get the protein in and right now I can eat enought to get in all I need.

Hi Jo,
I take about 15 minutes to drink 3 oz. taking 3 or 4 small sips at a time..Doesn't really take long to drink 3 oz that is why I like to do it that way..Doctors are sure different. I am still on cottage cheese and soups til thursday and then I can add tuna, cheese, crackers etc. can't wait to get to really chew something..

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll try it.  It is odd how doctors are so different in what patients do pre-op and post-op.  Telling me at 2 weeks out to only have 3 meals a day and 1 protein drink just didn't work for me.  No way can I eat 2 oz. of protein at a meal.

I eat a lot of soup and I love Ritz crackers......about 4 at a time once a day.  I also eat low fat cheese quite a bit.
