Who is your doc and why?

Just joined tonight and looking for information. Please help! I am having the surgery, but trying to decide on a doctor in St. Louis. Could anyone please tell me who they chose and why? and which surgery they had, I am leaning toward the sleeve. Thanks for your input!

Hello - I had RNY Gastric Bypass.   I chose Dr. Van Wagner from Heart of America Bariatrics and the New Start program.   He seemed to have good surgical experience and was very upfront about risks, advantages, disadvantages, etc. at his seminar.   I felt like he wasn't trying to sell me on anything, he simply stated the facts.     I've been happy with everything thus far, at almost 6 months out.   Good luck on your decision making!

   I am having the RNY and I chose Dr. Hornbostel for many reasons... I compared all the other surgeons in Missouri and I he has more experience ( has more surgeries under his belt), his office staff was very, very nice. I didnt feel that I was just another patient calling for info. When I went to the seminar he told you what he expected out of you, what you can expect and pros and cons of having the surgery and so on. I like that when I have a question and I leave a message on the voice mail it gets answered with a call back even at 9 o'clock at night even if it is a weekend, so that I dont have to go the whole weekend wondering.....  I felt very good about the decision and never questioned if I am doing the right thing. I know I am. I think you have to have faith in your surgeon. I do!! Complete!! I know that my life is in not good, but GREAT hands with Dr. H. I researched alot and although he is further then others it is worth it, I AM worth it. You have to go to seminars, not just one;but until you find the ONE that is RIGHT for you. I had a great vibe about him where I didnt with some others. I didnt settle for who is close. I went with who I felt comfortable with and I had a great vibe when I met with Margie his wife and nurse and himself. I know I am rambling but I cant stress to you how important it is to go with who YOU are comfortable with, dont go by distance or economics. I had RNY, with Dr. Norbert Richardson there in St. Louis at St. Alexis hospital with the new start program.  He is a VERY good surgeon.  I trust him so much, that I sent my husband to him 3 years later.  My brother also used him.  We all are very pleased.  He really knows his stuff.
