3 Weeks out Today - Food Problems
I'm really trying to follow the instructions. I eat so slowly my little bit of food gets cold. The only foods I've found that taste good are crackers and watermelon. I chew, chew, chew but get pain in the middle of my chest. Am I eating too fast? Doesn't seem like it. I had a scrambled egg this morning, a hour ago, and I'm still having a little pain. I can't get chicken down at all, comes right back up. Yogurt goes down well.
The dietician says as of last week I should be eating 3 meals a day, 2 oz. protein each meal. I can barely get down 1 oz. at a time. I need 60 grams of protein a day so I should have one protein drink. There's no way I can get 60 grams when 40 is supposed to come from my meals.
What do I need to do?

Hello and Welcome to the board. I won't be telling you to go against what your Nut or Dr is telling you but, what worked for me was to take very small bites and chew, chew, chew. Eat more things you don't need to chew. Make SF pujdding and put in protein mix. Cottage cheese things that will go down easy, I could't eat meat for 3-4 months. Protein drink works wonders. You will learn what works for you.
Hugs; Barbara

A lot of people say that we don't absorb enough protein through foods that we eat our bodies need more so that is why it is so important to do the protein drinks. I had a problem with meats too ground beef works best for me. I'm 6 mo's out and sometimes still can't do chicken and pork is a big no, no for me still. I did well with cottage cheese, cheese, they do have a protein pudding out which isn't bad you just have to get it at a health store. Cream of wheat was ok just remember to take it easy I know you are probably wanting more to eat but just go easy it does get better.
Thanks for your comments. I'm going to try ground beef tomorrow. I have the protein pudding but can only eat half the can at once. I put some SF Cool Whip on it and it's not bad. I made a protein shake today and got about half of it down. It's just nasty. I tried Isopure earlier and it is okay. Think I'll get some more and poured over ice. It's much better than the shakes.
Cottage cheese has 15 grams of protein in a half cup so that's a good source. I used to love CC Salad made with SF dry orange Jello and a cup of Cool Whip added to the carton. Now the thought of something sweet is such a turn off.
