Hello all!

     My name is J and I'm trying to get rid of the Big.  I'm a performance DJ and father of 3.  I have been overweight my entire life and its time to change.  I don't like doctors or hospitals, they scare me actually.  That's why this is a big step for me.  My situation is "complex" to say the least, but I'm tired of being passed over for jobs and disappointing my wife.
    Due to me owning my own business, I currently have no insurance.  My thought was to find the right doctor here locally for my procedure, and then see which is the best insurance to cover the procedure.  After I find this information, I will get the best insurance possible to help cover the costs and move forward.
     Any help or info you all can give would be great.

Thanks ahead of time,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I don't know of any private insurance that would cover gastric surgery. The only plans that cover it are Medicare, Medicaid and employer sponsored plans. I'm sure not the final authority on this but I have seen others trying to go this route and not having any luck. Sorry and welcome to the board. Keep coming back and let us know of your progress.

"WLS is about making better choices, a healthier lifestyle and seeing how little you can eat.  Portion control is the key to all weight loss surgeries.  Bottom line - it isn't how much you can eat - it is how little you can eat."

Hello J;

Welcome to the Missouri Board. All I can suggest is to check on the main board and also the forums groups for the insurance board. Maybe can get help there. We will pray for the help you need.

Welcome, and no matter what never give up on your dreams if one insurance turns you down move on to the next determination will pay off.  I know insurance companies aren't easy to work with and if you have a pre-exsisting condition they won't cover it usually.  If all else fails go to Voch. Rehab. in your state.  If you have comorbidities that would prevent you from working they can help.  I know people who have gotten their surgery done by going to voch. rehab so keep that in mind too.  Also keep in mind that this is a long process from start to finish there are no quick fixes here.  They usually require you to do like a 6 mo dr. supervised diet so that's something you can start working on if you haven't already.  Go to the dr. often about any problems your having contributing to your weight that's very important (documentation).  Good luck on your journey it's an amazing one!  Keep your eyes on the prize!

Hello J  Im Andrew,  just wanna welcome you to the Missouri board and congratulations for taking the first step in your journey to WLS.  Feel free to ask any of us anything you are wanting to know, if someone doesnt know the answer Im sure we'll find out some how.  If I remember right, Imperial isnt to far from St Louis,  if thats the case ya might wanna try to find a support group to attend, they are always so helpful esp to new beginners.  Well anyways, sure hope you keep posting and lets us know how your coming along.

Hey J,   Welcome aboard to an adventure you will never forget. I'm sorry to hear of your insurance delimna but never give up.   You might check at DePaul Weight loss center for a support group if you are near St Louis. Or just post on here to see who might be having one in that area. I know we have had people at our meetings find out useful insurance info.  Good luck and keep smiling!                 Sugar
You might want to keep your wife and kids involved in this effort. It is any important thing in thier lives too!
