7 Days Post Surgery

I see improvement each day.  Tastes have surely changed though.   This morning I made cream of wheat and it was so good.  I measured it out into my half cup bowl.  Last night I had some tomato soup and made the mistake of having a "serving" according to the box.  Big mistake!  The Campbell's Select Tomato Soup is delicious but it does need to be strained.

Yesterday I really worked to get my water in.  Sure hope my taste for water returns but now it just doesn't take good.  Getting in 60 grams of protein is difficul but I'm close.  I'm going to GNC and get the bullets and Isopure.

Can't wait for a real meal next week.  When I look back and realize I'm been on a liquid diet since June 24th, I'm surprised and proud of myself for sticking to it.

I've lost 13 lbs. since my first weigh in at Dr. Price's office.  I was hoping for more weight loss since I'm taking in only a fraction of the calories I did pre-liquid diet.  Guess it takes awhile for the body to adjust.

You're just beginning the most wonderful adventure. I have a couple of suggestions. Main one - don't weigh every day. I had to have my DH hide the scales because I was weighing every day and if I didn't lose or, God forbid, gained 4 ounces it ruined my day. I only weigh once a week and my clothes let me know how I'm doing otherwise. Also, don't expect a steady loss. It seems as if our bodies have a mind of their own - apart from our brain. We hold on to weight for a couple of weeks and then drop 3-4 pounds - then gain 1 then lose 3, then lose 1. You get the picture. The good thing is if you follow the rules in the first six months you'll almost always be rewarded big time. At 19 months out it is much harder - I can and do eat things that I didn't eat when my surgery was new. Slider foods - crackers, etc- just go down and don't fill me up but I'm trying to remember the pouch rules and get back on track. I'd like to lose a couple more pounds and then go for a plastic surgery consult!!! Don't want to have Plastics until I'm convinced I can hold steady and keep this belly fat under control. Congratulations on your early success and know that we're always here for you.
Hugs,

"WLS is about making better choices, a healthier lifestyle and seeing how little you can eat.  Portion control is the key to all weight loss surgeries.  Bottom line - it isn't how much you can eat - it is how little you can eat."

Were you on the seventh floor after your surgery? I was there too. I had my surgery on June 23, but I am that 1.6% that has complications. Two days after surgery I started throwing up pure bile. Dr. Price realized I had a blockage in my small intestine. So he had to take me back into surgery to remove that. Then, two days after that he realized I had developed a leak in my old stomach so back in I went again. This time I went into ICU for about 5 days because the fluid had damaged my lung. I almost died. If it was not for my age and for my good health, Dr. Price feels that I would have died. He is a very good surgeon! He took such good care of me, not to mention all of the compassion he showed me and my family.

I am now home, for two weeks today! I have no more drainage tubes just a GI tube. I am feeling much better now that the drain tube is out. The best part of all of this is that I have lost 40 yes 40 pounds! I could not believe it when I saw him yesterday. Dr. Price was shocked to I think. I just wish I did not have all of the complications that I did. I am hoping I am on the road to recovery and nothing elese will set me back again!!

So glad to hear from you Cassie.  What an ordeal for you!!  Congtratulations on the 40 lbs. lost but what a way to lose it.

I was in 7405 but the week is pretty much a blur.  I did have some regrets on the third day.  I started vomiting and it was red so that really scared me.  I was so sick the rest of that day and had severe nausea again Friday.  I've not had nausea since and see improvements every day.  My loss is about 16 lbs.  I'm seeing numbers on the scale I've not seen in years.

In a couple days I start solid food.  Can hardly wait to have some real food.
