Hello everyone,  I have some questions about the liquid diet. I swear i am a little slow when it comes to this. I know I have to drink broth, clear liquids, sugar free popsicles and choclate pops, right? But, I am UNclear which slimfast to drink? I know they have to have high protein, but will I be able to have a variety? I am going to get started on vitamins this week and get into the habit. I am also wondering what are the best drinks to get? ( taste wise and price wise ;) I am having a hard time finding good drinks that arent $3 each. I really cant afford it right now, atleast until I get some kids to watch. If anyone has any good suggestions and on the protein drinks I would appreciate it. Thanks so much!! ~Lori

The only advice I can give you about clear liquids is to try your favorite Campbells soup - mine is the old fashioned chicken noodle - and heat it up and drain out the noodles, veggies, whatever and just drink the broth. Somehow, to me, it tastes way better than the regular broth in a can.
Hope this helps you - the dollar store might have canned soup cheap. I know how it goes to be short on $$$$.

there are several protein ready to drinks outthere some are better than the others. the only thing i can afford is the ON protein powder that you can buy at food 4 less in Springfield for 39.00 a 5 pound tub it last me about a month.   they have free mixing glasses with it in a bin right at the corner of that isle. I have found that if i use crystal lite and my protein powder and put in a couple of ice cubes too that it mixes really well and tastes good too. if you think it needs something you can add a little splenda.  what did you mean when you were naming off stuff you could have and you said Chocolate Pop??? dont know about that....have you found someone to take you to Sedalia yet????

Hi Lori, I am on the liquid diet now and I can  have slimfast low carb only.  Not high protein has to be low carb but it has alot of protein in it. Hope that makes sense.  I get it at walmart for 4 cans for 6.08. They have choc and vanilla. I think the choc taste just like choc milk and have no trouble drinking it. It has 2 carbs and 20 grams protein. It has all kinds of vitamins that you need also. Have to drink 5 minimum per day. I can also have Adkins advantage. There are several different flavors. It is 6.27 for 4 cans. It has 2 carbs but only has 15 gms protein so I have to drink 6 minimum per day.  Also can have broths, sf popsicles, sf jello, no puddings. I ask the nurse about my whey protein but she said preop they wanted the slimfast or advantage because of the vitamins. It is very expensive but I want to stay pretty much the way they want it. The strange thing is they said I didn't have to do a bowel prep. Said they work high in the intestines and if you follow the 14 day diet I should be cleaned out.lol....That kind of worries me.. But Dr De la torre has done alot of surgeries so I would think he knows what he is doing. I am putting my life in his hands.  I can tell you the liquid diet is no picnic but it is doable..I am keeping my eye on the prize... Hope this helps you a little..If I had been smart I would have bought a couple of pkgs of the slim fast as I went along, but no I always have to do things the hard way. I have been that way all my life so I probably won't change now..darn....lol

Hi, I agree with Beverly, the slimfast high protein is the best with the most protein, just drink it cold and pour into a glass so it doesn't have the tinny taste from the can. I don't know about the other protein drinks, when I had my surgery in april Margie said NOT to substitute other drinks , do what the white binder say's. It say's in there that you can have boost shakes, but you only get 9oz in a boost VS 14 oz for the slimfast, believe me you WILL NOTICE the extra 5 oz!!! the low carb has 20 g of protein VS the 14 for the high protein weird huh. The choc. pops maybe sugar free but they are not calorie free (i checked them out for myself) they are a no no  on the pre op liquid diet. you can have sugar free jello, popsicles, broth, any liquid (or melt into liquid) that is 10 calories or less(10 cal. or under is "free" liquid) the only other calories or "food" is the the 5 slim fast (or boost) ,you are supposed to keep your calories at 1000 or less per day and the slim fast has 190, x 5 = 950 calories. leaving you with 50 calories left. I think I probably went a little over because I ate so much jello, it can be really filling if your hungry.

Hi on my liquid diet i did the GNC Whey Protein powder came in a big container i did the double protein which is 1/3 cup of powder dry milk to the protein powder and a cup of skim milk mixed in the blender 3 of those would be my protein for the day.        Now i have had my surgery and on almost my 30 days i do the double protein with sugar free instant carnation breakfast drink for my protein drink.  Since surgery i have became allergic to the whey probably was before just did not realize it then.                Good luck the 14 day was the hard but not as hard as after surgery.
