Hey, that's my date too!!! Who's your Dr. and where are you having your surgery done?  I don't smoke, but know several people that have used Chantix with really good success. It is expensive but if you figure how much you are spending on cigarretts (spelling?) it is about the same. I think it runs about 100$ a month. Hope this helps! Liz

have you found a liquid protein that you like? you will have to get use to using somesort of protein after surgery, they say it has to be protein isolates type. and you will have to use it the rest of your life so it isnt a one time thing. same with the vits.  congradulations on your date. glad you are so close.

Debbie,  Congrat's on the date. I'm a smoker and when I was trying to stop before I used chantix. The pill's help a great deal, but if you don't have a lot of well power (like myself) you will need an extra boost to help you, so you might ask your doctor what else you are able to take with them. I do know if you decided to stop taking them you start back smoking twice as much. I personally find them to be a big big help though on your way to stop smoking. I plan on starting mine again as soon as I get insurance approval.   I'm not sure if your insurance will pay for them or not, but if it doesn't you can call the chantix company and they will help you with the cost.  Good Luck

Renee

If He bring's you to it.... He will bring you through it.

I have to start the 2 week liquid diet on the 28th, Margie said I could only have Slimfast High Protein or Boost glucose control. I went ahead and got some of both, I got vanilla slimfast and tolerated it but didn't really like it. I did get the choc. boost and it's really pretty good. I also invested in the Magic Bullet thing I saw mentioned and when I mix the boost with some ice in it, it is actually really pretty good. We'll have to keep in touch and suffer together :>)))). I noticed dyin to be thin (I think) has a date of the 12th so we can commiserate and keep each other on track. Liz

Hi Debbie, First off-CONGRATS~!!!!! Im doing my famous baby circle dance for ya!  Let me say-I smoked prior-and it was really rough to try and quit smoking AND doing the liquid diet-all at once....BUT...Keep your eye on the prize and your new life-and its ALL worth it. Nothing will ever taste good enough to risk your surgery for.  Thats for sure.  I chewed a TON of sugar free gum AND sunflower seeds-after chewing them, I spit them out. I also carried a straw and would chew it too....As far as the liquid diet...protein drinks do help with the hunger pangs. I felt like warm chicken broth was a treat- sf popsicles were awesome.... I also, several months prior to surgery, cut out ALL sugar and soda. I had a migraine for days-but it was all out of my system. To me, splenda tastes the best-or the generic stuff carried at Walmart. I ate sf jello with the sf whipped topping and felt like I was getting a goodie!  If I felt like I just HAD to eat something-I made it an egg scrambled or a couple bites of tuna-high protein and just a bite or two. You may have times were you feel frustrated-and need a boost-and when that happens, PLEASE get on here and post...let us listen-thats what we are here for.  Do you have an angel yet-and if you dont, do you want one?  Congrats again...your seats being polished on the losers bench!! Hi Debbie!  My PCP gave me a prescription to Chantix and I did very well with it.  Used it for a month and then have been on my own since.  I do though think about the cigs and how I miss them sometimes, but am feeling better and know it will help out with my surgery tomorrow!  I have BCBS and only had to pay something like $22 for the prescription.  So, depending on what type of insurance you have will determine the cost.  Best wishes to ya, it's one of the hardest things I've had to do by stopping the smoking, but know that if I can do it, then post-op I should hopefully be good to go!  :)    ----Shelley
