Hello all I was just reading the posts and I seem to be hearing alot about hernias.  Do these really become common after RNY surgery?  This kinda scares me as to if I will have one?  I have never had one before.  Do htey occur after surgery?  Sorry askin so many questions, just curious and a little scarred I guess. Kerri, You can get a hernia after any surgery....Hernias are related alot to being over weight....but you don't have to be over weight to get a hernia....  There not always drastic and some can even improve with weight loss.... The main thing to know and do is to take care of your self if you get one.. Don't lift heavy, tug and pull alot & etc....If you do get one your doctor will advise you on to take care of your self.....Hang in there...You will do fine.....Luv & Hugs...Tammy~ammy

I got my hernia from not healing properly after my hysterectomy in 2006 because the fat pulled it apart...a nightmare to heal from with many trips to the Dr in Tulsa till it was better now I have a lovely bellybutton hernia. uuugggg dunno if they are common after RNY. I do know that the heavier a person is the more likely to develop some type of hernia. good luck with your surgery! nutti
