I know it may seem odd to most but this is the one thing I didnt too much focus on. while in the hospital I had a pca pump with dilaudid so i ididnt feel much of anything. i had a lap band in 2004 and went back to work the next day after that so no biggie. this pain, however has blown my mind. it is managable with the lortab but after I take it there is a sedating feeling and I sleep at least 2-3 hours after each dose. I dont know if no one mentioned it to me or I just blocked it out. I am a RN at the hospital I had my surgery and I know how important  it is to walk and control your pain, i was just caught off guard.  anyway I am home and doing fine otherwise.

Hi, I'm glad you are home and doing fine otherwise.  I haven't had my surgery yet - just in the paperwork stage - but have thought about the pain too as I am allergic to morphine and it seems most hospitals/mds give that.  Is dilaudid a derivative of morphine?  I have had 5 female surgeries not including my c-section and my hysterectomy.  I'm hoping the RNY won't be much worse than my female surgeries - it seems the older I get the less tolerance for pain I get.  It seems it would be the other way around!  LOL! was your surgery lap, rny ? i am wondering what the pain is? once they took the pump off me the next day i didnt have anymore pain. Sorry for you tho. I know everyone is different. Hope you get better soon. If it continues call your surgeon. there shouldnt be that much pain with the surgery.

My surgery was lap with lap-band removal. I guess there was a bit of an issue getting the band off and therefore more pulling? I dont know. at any rate it is much better today and I havent had to take the lortab only tylenol.

wow why did you have the lapband removed? is that normal for lapbands? i dont know much about them . glad that you are feeling better. Did you lose all the weight you wanted to lose with the lap band?

I got the lap band in 2004. I lost 55 pounds the first year, it slipped out of place, I had to have it unfilled and couldnt get it removed because I had no way to pay for it at the time, regained 55 pounds plus 25. I have several friends with the lap band, out of 6 of us no one has lost more than the 55 pounds I did. Average was 35 pounds. I think if you are more than 100 pounds overweight the lap band isnt going to help much. they say a weight loss of 50% is clinically successful with the band, well 50% of 100 is 50 lbs. yeah not worth it, nausea, vomiting, sliming. i am glad to have to off for sure. mine had migrated near my esophagus at the time of removal.
