FOOD...it's just not the same anymore...

I think what the problem is, is that we don't get enough food to actually TASTE it--so it's just not satisfying.  For me since surgery I have to spice everything super spicy just so the taste lingers in my mouth.  That way I actually FEEL like I ate something.  BUT food just isn't satisfying anymore--I don't get the same feeling from food anymore--I don't enjoy eating because it tastes good in my mouth BUT when it gets to my tummy it doesn't feel comfortable.  Before I never felt the food in my stomach so I just kept eating but now since surgery I feel every bite in my stomach.  I'm grateful and NOT complaining because I've lost 178lbs as of 5/11/08 and that's since 1/22/08.  I'm just explainging how food is for me nowadays and wonder if anyone feels the same???

Gosh I feel ya girl!!   same thing, I eat something that tastes soo good and i'm full before i'm ready to be!! What "works" for me or should I say HELPS, is I eat reeeeally slowwww, seriously if I eat a slice of toast with peanut butter, it takes me 8 min. I make it last as long as possible, and when it's gone i'm DONE , go do something else, read or cards whatever take your mind off of food. I kind of suspect you may be overeating a bit if your uncomfortable after eating, don't feel bad, I do it too, we probably ALL do at some point. I also suck on alot of sugar free mints, it fools my body into thinking it's getting something lol. good luck, Susan

I have a problem with the eating slow---I think that's why my tummy gets irritable---I grew up in a military family so it was always shut up and eat and finish what's on your plate---guess old habits are hard to break--one thing I've done to trick my brain into thinking I'm eating is I drink the broth from chicken noodle soup--I drink about 2 cans a day---one at night because night eating was one of my problems---so if I drink it when I'm watching tv before bed my brain thinks I'm munchin on something--not sure if it's good for me but it works---I don't eat the noodles or the chicken just drink the juice---thanks for responding and good luck to you too

Angie, I hope this happens to me.  I NEVER eat because i am hungry,   Food just tastes to darn good I just keep eating and eating & before I know it, I am so stuffed I feel sick.  But if it's something that I really like, I don't care if I feel sick, I just keep shoving it in.  I hope after surgery, my tastes change & food doesn't taste so good to me.   You are doing GREAT  178 lbs since January!   OMG  that is AMAZING!!!   Keep up the GREAT work!!!    Love & Hugs,   Angy

I'm so impressed with your weight loss.  That's wonderful.  I'm waiting.....and waiting for my surgery to get scheduled.  I have around 100 lbs. to lose.   Sweets have always been my favorite thing.  I hear a lot of post surgery patients say they don't like them or they cause dumping.  Can't imagine not liking Chocolate Chip Cookies. Your comments about food were very interesting. Jo

Hi Jo, Thanks!!!  I wish I could tell you my secret but I just don't know if I have one---just the tool of my surgery.  Best of luck on your journey and DON'T give up!!!  If you're having the RNY you won't like sweets for long lol you'll be DUMPING if you try to eat them---and trust me dumping is NOT fun!!!  Take Care!

For me nothing tastes good, so why bother? Just the thought of eating turns me off.  I have gotten to the point of getting lightheaded. I don’t know why this is. I have been told that I should eat every few hours. I'm working on this. Next week I am going to the doctor to see what is going on.  Hopefully, this stage of not wanting to eat want last much longer. You are doing great with your weight loss journey. Keep up the good work.

yeah pretty much the same way and i think that is what we paid for the surgery for. lol I know i dont want food to taste good to me anymore.  I dont even try to get my protein in by eating food since we cant possible eat enough to get it all in by that way anyway. Since we have the malabsorbstion thing going we only get about half the protein we put in by food anyway so to get 80 grams of protein by food we would have to eat enought that it equaled 160 grams of food and that is a very large amount of food. I use food only to satisfy my need to fill my tummy or to make my mind think i have eaten and am not deprived.  I get most if not all my protein from my 4 protein drinks a day...-=96grams from that and if i eat any food then i can have green veggies then if that is all i want.  I just had my labs all done and they are really good....just need to incream my Iron a tiny bit.  which isnt anything abnormal with me ive always had that problem.   Angie you are doing great. Everyone has to do what they can to lose and keep themselves healthy. and to do that you have to have at least 80 grams of protein a day, at least 64oz of water and all of your vits ....
