Thanks for all the replies! I have thought about checking into a meeting in Sedalia. I go to school at SFCC so I will be up there twice a week in the fall anyway. Yah, the gas prices suck! So, I am thinking that maybe once I've had a few more visits with Thelma, Tricia, and the staff that I may feel more at ease up at St. Lukes' meetings. I am betting a lot of those people have had to do 3 or 6 month diets for their approvals, like Hot Flash did, and I haven't. I only had my initial consultation with Dr. Price, then I had my one appointment with Thelma and Tricia and the psych eval. Those are the only two times I have been up there. I guess the more I go up and see them for appointments, the more I may run into other patients and get to know the staff more. I'll pray on what I want to do. I really feel like I need some sort of support. This board may be the best thing I can find. Does anyone on here not attend meetings and just use this board as their support? Thanks, Brandy

I'm also a SFCC student.  I'm taking classes this summer and I'll be there MTR in the fall.

Christine, Well, hello fellow Roadrunner! What is your major? I'm getting an AAS in Accounting. I'm taking 2 online courses this summer: Excel and Employment Strategies. I the fall I will be on campus Tuesdays and Thursdays all day. I have a 9:30, an 11 and a 2. I'm planning on either doing homework or walking during my break from 12:15 to 2. I'm trying to finish school as fast as I can so I can start working. A family of five on one income isn't working out too well. Especially with the state of the economy. Oh, btw, I'm having the RNY. I've been researching surgery for over a year and prior to my research I wanted the lap band, primarily because it is removable. My thinking now, after researching, is this: why would I want to lose weight and then remove it and end up gaining all the weight back. I want something permanent. I need that huge of a commitment. I completely realize it is a tool. I just need a REALLY BIG tool! Sorry, I just found all the little happy face things and I am trying them out!!!!

I hear ya on the trying to finish school fast!  I'm trying to get into the radiology program, but because I entered in the spring instead of last fall, my timing is off.  I have to wait to apply for the program next spring, so in the mean time I'm working towards the GE AAS.   Have you looked into the surgeon in Sedalia?  Will your insurance not cover him?  His office is on 10th street, behind Wal Mart.. right around the corner from us, when we're at school.   My schedule for the Fall is wacky!  I only have one class on Monday.  On Tuesday, I have a 9:30, 11 and a 2 also!   On Thursday, I have 9 then I have nothing until 2.  I'm taking Anatomy and the classes and labs make my schedule insane.  It's going to take me all semester to remember where I'm supposed to go!  If you want a walking buddy in the fall, LMK, since we have similar schedules on TR.  I totally understand your decision on Lap v RNY!  I'm right there with ya. Well lady, I'm glad you posted!  It'll be fun getting to know you.

I went in thinking lapband but Karla, Sandy and Dr. Price recommended gastric bypass.  So, since they're the experts I'm going with their suggestion.  Jo

Brandy,

We have a meeting in Lees Summit on the 4th monday of each month.  This month we will not be having it as it falls on Memorial Day and our mondays are reserved.  We have been averaging  around 8-10 people and once we had 13.  Last month we only had 4 and we were discouraged.

I live in Concordia, and could meet you at junction 13 and 70.  I think that is still a travel for you.  Let me know if you want to go in June.  Our meetings are not structured - I usually have a few things that I throw out for discussion and we talk.  We have had some really good weight losses in our group.  One lady drives from Harrisonville.  We started that group because there was none in the area that we knew about.  I drive 55 miles one way.  Hoping the attendance picks up to make it worth my drive.  Let me know if you want to go.  Colette

Colette, I live in Lee's Summit.  Could you please tell me where the meeting is that you attend here?  Also, is it Lap-Band, Gastric, or what?  I am currently attending a 4th Thursday of the month meeting at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, which is quite a drive for me! Thanks! Ashleigh
