Between my RNY- gallbladder surgery, and my hernia and plastic surgery for my excess skin removal surgery which has totaled well over $100.000 bucks Aetna has paid 100% of it except for a $500 deductible, and a $1500 out of pocket expense. Aetna has been great about paying for stuff. I wish your son good luck in finding a insurance company that meets his needs. Alan H

Hi Big Al, Do you have the Aetna thru an employer or did you purchase the Ins. yourself? My husband has United Healthcare through his employer and the contract they  chose will not cover WLS. Thanks  Brenda

I have it through my wifes work.  I think these insurance companies need to wake up and realize how much they would save in the long run by allowing for WLS. Alan H

I have Aetna thru my employer.  Before I started the process I contacted them to see if they would pay and they said yes if it was precertified and met certain requirements.  I'm in the process of getting their approval now having turned in all my paperwork last week.   It's not exploratory surgery or experimental so I don't know why insurance companies don't cover it.  It would save them and patients so much money for people to be more healthy. Good luck on finding coverage. JB
