for some reason , they think it is the removal of some of the upper intestine it cures Diabetis.  Has been documented in lots and lots of cases and the ones that it hasnt completly cured it has reduced their need for anything but pills .....

I had the DS I was cure %100 just weeks after surgery. I was given %99 cure rate with the DS when I was planning to have the RNY they gave me a %78 cure rate.  I was insulin dependent twice a day. I do know that the DS has been used in Europe for over 15 yrs as a cure for Type II diabeties.  I know several ladies here in OH that their husbands had the DS just for diabeties.  Not all WLS surgeries will get rid of diabeties, some does and some it doesn't. I wanted the cure I didn't want to take my chances that I wouldn't be off insulin.  That's why I went to Omaha and had the DS. Well that was the #1 reason the second was I liked the idea that I wouldn't have dumping and that I could eat fried potatoes and onions after I ate my protein.   I hope this helps and I wish you luck with your WL journey.
