Alot of complications post op

Chad had his RNY April 1, and has had so many complications!!!  First of all there is a shortage on Heparin(blood thinner given preop), so they gave him lovenox.  He had a reaction, and spent his 2 days in ICU bleeding out.  His HGB went from 18 to 10 in 24 hours.  If it went to an 8, he was going to get a blood transfusion, but it quit.  A week later we went to have his drain, and staples out.  He had a walnut size brown spot on his abdomen underneath an incision site.   The doctor said it was too hard to drain, but keep an eye on it.  The next day this small brown spot covered his whole belly.  It was blood, and we went to the ER.  They had to use a scaple to open it, drain it, and pack it.  That took about a week to heal.  He spiked a fever two weeks ago.  He did not want to call his doc because it was a weekend, so he waited.  we had blood work, cat scan, and chest xray done.  He had developed an infected abscess in his abdomen below his diapram, making it hard to breathe.  He was admitted to St. Louis hospital.  We spent 4 days there.  He came home with a PICC line in his arm so he could get IV antibiotics, 2 oral antibiotics, and a huge tube out of his gut draining some real smelly, nasty stuff!!!  It has been a nightmare.  I had the surgery done, came home, and all is good, but my poor Chad.

Best wishes for you and Chad.  Don't forget in all this to find time to take care of yourself, so you don't go under, too. Hugs Deb
