Just wondering if this is normal, Tues went for my one week check up, ate a tiny amt of mash pot. it was fine. wed I ate 2 tb. of cottage cheese, had cramps (very low bowels?) most of the night, decided yesteray to leave off of food, focus on protein drink instead as i'm not hungry. All day yesterday, managed to get down 32 oz , (88grams protein total) of the drink, I have just felt bloated and needing to burp since the cottage cheese day. Last night when I went to bed, i kept on being woken up because it was like the liquid kept coming back up, I felt like I was drowning, Today I'M  doing the protein drink today again, I figure my body needs the nutrients more than the "food". So far today I still feel like the liquid I drink isn't really draining like it should, I would think if I had a blockage it would be painful , but it's not. I just feel so blown up and tired. My stomach feels full. Prior to officially being able to move from 1 oz. to 2 oz, I was keeping it down just fine even probably doing a half oz. more than I was supposed during the 1 oz. stage. I really don't want to have to call the dr. but It is freaking me out to lay down and have my fluids come back up!( no, it's not puking, i just swallow it back down as it tastes the same, nothing disgusting) please if this happened to any of you, let me know. thank you  p.s I try to wait at least an hour and a half before laying down after drinking and don't think it's more than 2 oz. How long does liquid take to pass through? i thought it was supposed to be quick! ps ps, the past day and a half my blood sugar s have gone from 119's since I came home from the hsp.to 147 and 151 last night and today?! whats up with that?

The Dr. is there for a reason.  Call him!  If they tell you it's nothing, then you can peace of mind!  If it's something, and you ignore it, it can hurt and you'd only have yourself to blame. It's not like you asking for a house call, you're asking for a person to speak with you on the phone and give you good,QUALIFIED, MEDICAL information.  Besides, it's Friday... do you really want to deal with this all weekend, if you don't have to?  Call the dr! I know I sound mean, but come on!  Something like that could be very serious, or it could be nothing, and I'd rather my dr be out a 10 min phone call for nothing, then find out I was avoiding something serious. Best wishes, please, let us know what you find out!

OK OK, I broke down and called Marjie (she is so nice) I told her everything, she thinks it's a thiamine defeiciancy (sp) since I haven't been taking my b complex  I bought some liquid and then figured out it was 12% alcohol, she said to take it 3 x a day (smaller than the 3 tb recommended) and to let her know if things don't improve. I was afraid with all the fluids coming up, and now some coughing I was getting pnuemonia. Thanks all for the pushes in the right direction, susan

Yeah...they are BAD!  I had to go the first week without until my liquid b complex came in.  It is around $12 or so from www.vitacost.com and the amounts aren't as high as the 100 he wants us to take but the % of daily rec all is in the hundreds and thousands on some things.  The absorption is so much better too because it is liquid...they say you absorb twice as much...it is made by Tropical Oasis...still doesn't taste great...but WAY BETTER than taking those things crushed!!!!  You would only need one bottle...once you are 1 month post op you get to go back to pills and caps if everything is ok....it may not be a perfect solution, but it is a lot better than going without.

Thanks all for the kind and helpful advice, I just quit putting anything in my mouth for an hour or so , and it seemed to of helped. AMY I got the liquid b complex at the local pharmacy, I called them and asked if they had it in the liquid, and had my mom pick it up, I probably wouldn't of gotten it if i'd known it was 12% alcohol, but Marjie told me to break it up into 3x a day, it is nasssssty , but I think it would be better than the caplet crushed, It would hurt to much if I had to puke lol.  good luck susan

This feeling still happens to me from time to time --- usually it's because I've drank too much or too fast. Take it easy on the fluids --- you are fresh from surgery ( you are still swollen, healing and your nerves are still repairing themselves ... you may be over doing it and not even now it) . It may be a while till you build up how much you can drink at any givein time and thru out the day. If you keep a cup of water near you and take a tiny sip every few minutes you will be fine. And remember if you are really concerned that something is wrong always call your surgeon. He is getting paid for your aftercare so take advantage of it. Take care of  yourself.
