Does ANYONE NOT get accepted by a surgeon?
I was wondering if there is anyone that has been turned down by a surgeon? I have talked to Dr. Hornbostel's office a couple of times and they always seem to say "after your first appt and "IF" he takes you as a patient.... " I was wondering why would he not? I mean, if he had too many patients they wouldnt waste my time doing everything and having me travel 3 hrs one way would they? I have already been to the seminar and I am doing everything that is asked of me that would be necessary for any other Dr., but I dont want anyone but him. I am just wondering if there is any reason he wouldnt take me? Any input is greatly appreciated! Stay Blessed~*Lo
I had the same fear before my first appointment. When I went in for my appt, he had just turned down a patient right before he came into my room. WAIT! He turned her down b/c she's bipolar and wasn't taking her meds. The grumpy nurse told me about it. He's turned down ppl who have anexoria/bulemia in their past... As long as you "pass" the psych eval and you meet the requirements of weight/BMI, you should be fine. I am borderline for the weight, but I meet the BMI of >35 with a comorbidity.. so I was FREAKED OUT! BUT May 16th is my big day. So, don't worry. Just keep getting your stuff together, and wait for that magic white binder.
I'm sure the office gals just say IF b/c they probably run into some ppl who do not need surgery, and they can't tell what your cir****tances are over the phone.
I hope I've helped to calm you down a little bit.
I think they have to say that to cover themselves. They don't know what your health is like and you could have so many things wrong with you that surgery of any kind would be too dangerous. Don't worry so much. One thing you need to be is patient.

The answer to your question is YES some do NOT get accepted. I can speak from expierence because I was turned down by NUMEROUS different surgeons. It was do to my underlying health problems (which were typical big people problems such as high blood pressure, diabetis, arthritis, high colesterol, sleep apena) and my BMI was very high 84 I think I don't really remember. and they don't do patients over 450--I was 557lbs the day of surgery. Dr Hornbustel was one of those surgeons. Although I really liked him and hoped he'd be the one, unfortunately it didn't work out. But I did find a wonderful surgeon in Carmel, Indiana named Dr Margret Inman who is a Godsend. She is a former trauma surgeon so I felt very safe in her hands. It's been 2 1/2 months now and I'm down 120 (ish) lbs. I feel WONDERFUL and would totally do it all over again if I had the chance.
