Medical ID Bracelets?

I was snooping around on the RNY forum and saw a post on there asking about ID bracelets for RNY patients.  Several people have said that they have them, and they say, "Gatric Bypass, No blind NG tubes, No NSAIDS." Do any of you have one or do you suggest getting one?  I never knew there could be problems with NG tubes...  They said that an EMT could rupture your pouch... and no NSAIDS because it could mess up your pouch.. but if you're in that much trouble, wouldn't you be getting your meds by IV,  and if so, it seems like NSAIDS would be fine...  Any thoughts?

I take nsaids...doc gave them right after surgery...The yummy liquid percocet he gives all of us has tylenol in it which is an NSAID.  I don't think those are a problem except for someone who takes them chronically....and in that case they would be a problem whether you had RNY or not.  The NG???  I could see how that could happen...if you feel better about a bracelet I'd say go for it...can't hurt.  If you are truly concerned you should talk to doc or margie about it and whether or not it is a concern with how he constructs the pouch...I'm sure every surgeons technique is different.    He did mention that if anyone has to have an upper GI or EGD done it can't be done the conventional way...that I guess would be similar to trying to put down an NG.

Well, I thought it was pretty crazy... I mean, the problem with NSAIDs is with the tablet type.  If you take tablets all the time, chances are they're going to fall into and sit in the same spot, thus causing errosion (well, possibly) of the stomach tissue.  But surely, if something happens to you and you have to be whisked away to an ER, they're not going to being giving you tablets.. I'd think they'd be giving it IV.  Makes sense, eh?  And the NG tube.. heck, that would be a pretty wild cir****tance.  I just thought I was ask the dr, but youre right, I should ask my dr if I have questions! LOL

I wear a medical ID bracelet by Medic Alert for a lung disease and diabetes.  I ordered a charm that says gastric bypass off of e-bay and it will just clip onto my bracelet, or a person could make a necklace out of it.  I paid 28.00 for it (it is new) and I think it will do fine.  It says on the back of it Gastric Bypass -no ng tube w/o scope- no nsaids.  I ordered it from [email protected].  I have not got it yet, but it should be here in a few days.
