Rashes

Ok so I'm 4 months out from surgery and I have a rash on the underside of my tummy  and it spread backwards up to my hip toward my back.  Now I have an apron tummy so I can understand the rash there but not the one going back over my hip and towards my back.   It's itchy and burns.  My PCP gave me first cream and then a powder to use.  It keeps the rash under my tummy from itching (the powder) and I use the cream on my hip and back. Can anyone tell me if they have had one and what the cause is and what the Dr gave you for it.  I want to get rid of it.   thanks

Peace in all you do,
Bel
I'm so excited, I just can't hide it, I'm about to lose control and I think I like it, I like it!

Sounds like a rash caused by Yeast. I had a really bad one last year that lasted well over a month. Nothing my doctor gave worked. What I found that worked well to treat and prevent them was "MONISTAT® Soothing Care™ Chafing Relief Powder-Gel". I still use it everyday under my stomach and breasts too. Also whats nice is that it isnt messy, doesnt get all of your clothes etc--- which I hate about regular baby powders. Go to this website for an sample http://www.soothingcare.com/soothingcare/request_sample_buffer.htm ...and heres some info on rashes caused by yeast that I had bookmarked http://dermatology.about.com/od/fungalinfections/a/intertrigo.htm

Yeast Infection in Skin Folds

Intertrigo is a yeast infection of skin folds caused by Candida albicans. In areas of the body that have skin touching skin such as the armpits, groin, and under heavy breasts or fat folds, the environment is warm and moist. This is the perfect environment for Candida albicans, a yeast that is normally found on the skin, to overgrow and cause symptoms. Other factors that can cause intertrigo include:

  • Hot, humid weather
  • Tight or abrasive underclothing
  • Poor hygiene
  • Inflammatory skin diseases, like psoriasis, occurring in the skin folds
  • The use of topical steroids

Appearance of Intertrigo Intertrigo is characterized by an intensely red, macerated, glistening rash with scaling on the edges. The edge of the rash extends just beyond the limits of the opposing skin folds. Satellite lesions, small areas of the same rash that are close to the main rash, are characteristic of intertrigo and other Candida skin infections.

Bel,
I used and still use Gold Bond powder in all the "folds" under breasts, groin and tummy flap. Mine never got as bad as yours but I don't ever want it to again either.
