How much weight are you expected to lose on the 2 week liquid diet? They weighed me at my pre-asessment  prior to my diet, but I keep thinking , what if I haven't lost enough, do just send you home from the hosp. at 6:30 in the morning?!  It seems with the water my weight can flucuate 3-4 lb.s in one day. They said to drink alot of fluids the day before to plump up the veins, but I don't want the extra weight either. One more thing, I have to drink that huge bottle of mag citrate, how much time should I allow for it to "do it's thing"? does it cause intense cramping? I am worried because when I was taking the metformin I would get such cramps and hemmaroids (sp),  Now that I don't have to take it, that problem has gone away,I don't want to be up all night, I have to leave my house at 3:30 am to be up there at 6:30 monday.

Hey der...you sound like me lol. The weight thing is my big question too. The mag citrate though, I have read other posters and it seems the consensus is to drink it NLT 2pm and you won't be up all night. I also know, due to past experience, that this stuff shouldn't make us cramp. When I was trying to drop massive pounds prior leaving for basic, my recruiter told me to drink epsom salts for 5-7 days to drop my water and lose the pounds. It worked great and I never had any cramping problems.  I always used epsoms or mag citrate right before weigh in's too. The only thing I can say is GO NOWHERE!!!! With us being on liquids for 2 weeks, the cramping thing should just be a non-issue, just sudden URGE to go. I plan on setting up camp in my bathroom, complete with laptop, air mattress, and pillow lol. KEEP IT UP AND GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hey girl...it's not an amount of weight he wants you to lose exactly... it's more of a reduction of calories and fat so that your liver will shrink.  The scales aren't going to matter...i don't remember them weighing me the day of anyway.  The day before surgery you should be on a clear liquid diet only.  Unless that is one of the things that changed in the new book....and yes...take the mag by 2pm and you should be done with  by the time you go to bed.  The more clear liquids you take the more effective the mag will be.  I didn't have any cramping...just a warning gurgle...and don't trust ANYTHING that feels like it may be a fart...LOLOLOL.  Do yourself a favor and have a sprite or something standing by...take a swig of the mag and wa**** down with the sprite...I used lemonade and that worked pretty well too.  It's not horrible tasting but it is pretty tart.  I don't envy you...good luck!!!  And don't stress about the weight...it won't matter.

The way they told us is that if you should gain before surgery that is the possibility that you would be sent home...the reason?: the new extra fat you put on sometimes gathers around the liver thus not allowing them to manuver inside while they are working on you durning surgery. But I also had that same worriness before surgery .. Come to find out I had lost 30 some lbs during the pre liquid Diet. ia know if i can do it so can you.. hang in there...God Bless Craig Lee

I was surprised that I had lost 13 pounds on the liquid diet, because I had my moments of weakness.    I agree with the other posters - the main thing is that you did not gain weight and I'm sure you won't have.

The point of the two week liquid diet is to shrink your liver so he can perform the surgery. They arent looking for how much weight you have lost ---there isnt a set amount etc--- so no --- you wont be turned away on the morning of your surgery because you havent lost enough weight. If he wants you to drink a lot of water to pump of your veins (although I was never told this myself) then follow his rules and dont worry abou****er weight. Best of Luck.
