retaining water 2 wk. liquid diet
Has this happened to other people? I am on the 5th dayof my liquid pre-surgery diet, the second day, I already lost a pound, now It seems as though I've been actually gaining weight! and no I haven't cheated even once!. I usually suffer edema in the summer and have prescription water pills to take as needed for it. I went ahead and took one yesterday morning, and peed all day, so it must of helped.(though the scale still looks like I gained) My worry is when I go for surgery, it will look like I haven't lost weight and they will think I cheated!. I am supposed to drink lots the day before to "plump up my veins" I don't want to keep taking the pills because of that, but I was actually pitting before I took it. Is this sometimes caused by the liquid diet? One more thing they had me discontinue my (type2) diabetes medication at my pre op appt, I was wondering at the rationale for that? I forgot to ask. I have noticed my blood sugar is lower than it's been even taking the medication, so i'm not complaining (no nasty gastric distress from the metformin ,yipee!)
Are you drinking plenty of water??? You need 8 glasses a day...esp with a high protein diet. Try to avoid salty broth too...the salt is not your friend if you tend to retain....and more than likely you were asked to stop your metformin because your calorie intake is low enough that you will be using up the calories and glucose your body would normally have trouble with. If you still keep pitting...you need to call your doc. How's that for short and sweet

Hi, its not only you. I take a water pill every day and I was swollen badly at about the same time you were. The doc told me its the bodys way of trying to hold onto water and mine always does.. my poor feet were almost round lol.. then by the end of the first week.. wooo**** was all gone and my feet were so skinny lol. Hang in there, it WILL go away soon, i am sure of it. If i can swell i will.. i know the feeling.. keep in touch
