How is Doctor Phillip Hornbostel (sp) manner?
I cannot speak about pre reqs because they have changed since I had surgery. Bothwell was not a Bariatric Canter of Excellence at the time.
I can tell you that he is one of the best in his field. He has done literally hundreds of bariatric surgeries and has taught other surgeons the process.
In addition, he is one of the most caring doctors I have met. Many other readers will vouch for this. He is with you for the entire process, explains what is expected so you're not surprised by anything.
My only regret was not having the surgery sooner.
If you decide on the surgery, you will not regret having it done by Dr. Hornbostel.

Thank you for all the wonderfull advice. I am looking forward to a new healthier life. I go tot he May seminar and I hop to have surgery before christmas. I am ready to do anything necessary for this surgery. I am sick of the Byetta shots and the taking of blood sugars. I hope I can get this done.

I attended the March seminar and that has been my only interaction with Dr. Hornbostel, but it was very positive. He was very friendly and very approachable. I had several questions at the end of the seminar and he was more than willing to answer them, no matter how silly they seemed. At the seminar, you will be given a huge packet of paperwork. There are some things you need to fill out, and some that you need to take to your PCM. They'll hand out a packet that tells you some of the requirements for several different insurance companies. If your insurance requires you to do 6 months of supervised diets, Dr. H wants you to have that done before he sees you. Basically, when you get your office visit with him, you've done everything that needs to be done to increase the chances of getting approval from your insurance company. Now, after that point, I don't yet know what happens. I have my first office appointment with him on Weds, the 19th. I was told that he gives you a large binder with a lot of information in it, and you start scheduling any tests you need... but that is ALL hearsay. After Weds, I can post and tell you what my appointment was like and what I learned. But just from the seminar, he seemed like a caring physician with an amazing bed side manner. If he acts like that at my appointments and pre/post op, then he's a rare surgeon/physician!
Best wishes to you on your weightloss journey. You should check out some proflies of people who have had Dr. H. I have, and so far, I haven't read a negative word yet.
