Hi and welcome to OH, and the Missouri forum, I am not here always but I do try and stop by every once in awhile to see what's going on here.  I had the DS so am not always welcome but I try not to be pushy, I had a date for the RNY and just kept feeling there was something more I needed out of my WLS and I knew I was gaining and gaining and was going to have to do something, I was 1 week away from my surgery date when a lady from St Louy sent me a message telling me about the DS which I had never heard of before.  She called me on the phone as she was sitting down to dinner of fried potatoes and onions with fried pork chops, and I said what??????  I spent the entire weekend researching DS and on Monday called Dr. Anthone in Omaha and got a date for a consultation for 2 weeks later, called my RNY doc and cancelled my surgery with him.  It took me 6 month longer to get my surgery done, but it was so worth it for me.  Dr. Anthone is an awesome doctor besides having a great bedside manner.  After I had my WLS I wasn't doing well so I went back to Omaha, he admitted me and I stayed an entire month in the hospital, but they found out what was wrong with me, I had colon cancer.  So I went home for a month and went back to have colon resection which Dr Anthone did, GI was his speacality before he went into Bariatrics.  So he saved my life twice, I am needing a hernia repair now which I had before WLS from gallbladder surgery back in 99.  Because of me being so sick they didn't want to risk mesh causing me an infection at the time so made me wait for hernia repair then after I waited that long I figured I would put it off till I had to have it fixed which he gave me till Aug of this year to do, he is afraid it's going to get where it is going to get too big and cause trouble healing or something, it's about the size of a football or so now.  Hey I thought if it don't hurt don't mess with it.  I was told by my RNY surgeon that there is a 78% cure rate for diabeties.  When I went to Omaha he said 99%  I was in tears I was taking insulin twice aday and wasn't feeling my feet and legs from my knees down.  So it's hard to explain but I couldn't sleep, and I was so excited, it was like a light bulb went off in my head and I knew the DS was for me.  There is no dumping, no blind stomach, and I could eat my favorite foods without feeling sick, or guilty.  I have to take my supplements like everyone else but I don't have to have B12 shots, and I have to be sure I get all the protein and water in a day.  I am able to take asprin or NSADS if needed for my other medical problems, which I have a blown L5 that is giving me fits.  I just knew I had found what I was looking for, I felt like a kid with a balloon walking around so excited.  So good luck to you and please research all types of surgery.  I hope you find what your looking for, and enjoy the rest of your life to the fullest.  I have 7 kids 4 boys and 3 girls, mine are all grown and I know they look at me completely differently then they did before, I think they always respected me but I think now they also admire me for what I have been through and it has kind of hit them in the face that I may not be here if it wasn't for my decision to have WLS that they would never of found the cancer, the Good Lord works in mysterous ways.   I am a believer,.......he is not done with me yet and has his reason for me to be here for something.  I just hope I know what to do when it is time for me to do it,...lol So keep us posted with your process and I hope everything falls into place for you. Marylin 314/180/150  I love my DS!!

as for chosing what surgery was right for me was a very easy choice.  eagon and i discussed it and he agreed that i needed RNY something that if i ate some sort of food that i shouldnt would kick my butt and remind me that "HEY YOU HAVE HAD THIS SURGERY FOR A REASON"  this will be something to need to discuss with him.  he will be very honest about what he feels is the best option for you.  just talk to him.  good luck.  i will be at his office on the 25th of this month.  maybe one time we might meet up in the office.ha britt
