Hello Dr. Price's patients!  What's new? I go early in the morning for the Thelma & Trish visit for the weights and measurements; and then the food plan.  I guess I'll start the 90-day plan tomorrow - is that how it works?  And whatever weight I weigh in tomorrow is what's turned into insurance? Am I correct? I'll see the psych in the afternoon for the evaluation. Any new news with my Dr. Price patient buddies?  Ms. Nurse Karla has had to be away from the office.  Apparently a family situation took her back to Louisana and does't sound like she'll be bac****il later this week.   Anyone already in a diet plan?   Anyone getting a surgical date?  Any insurance situations?  How's everyone hold up through this beastly viral season? Where have you been my little neighborhood security guard buddy? Talk to you all soon. Hot-Flash

HEY! Good luck with all of your appointments! I go back to see Tricia and Thelma on March 12 and then I have one more appointment with Thelma on April 2. I am kind of nervous because I have not lost much weight at all. I hope it does not mess up me getting approved.  If it does I guess I will start the 90 day diet again and try even harder.   I just want to get this surgery over with! I want it so bad, but yet I am not looking forward to the recovery (all the pain).  Does any one know when the next support group meeting is? Does anyone go to them? I have been to a couple last year and they were pretty informative. I would like to go to the next one if possible.  Hey maybe we could ride together! What do ya think?

Cassie, sounds like your surgery date is getting close.  I don't think they expect you to lose a lot of weight.  If we could lose a lot of weight on this 3 month plan, why would be signing up for WLS?  Seems I read somewhere they would like us to lose 10% of our weight.  I've never lose 24 lbs. in 3 months before, why would I now. I have a schedule of the support group meetings at home.  The last one was Feb. 13th.  Wednesday evening is not good for me due to choir practice.  They had some topics earier in the year I would have liked, but the ones for the next couple months really don't interest me at this point.   There are other support groups that meet that aren't associated with Dr. Price.  You might check some of those. I was supposed to see Thelma and Tricia this morning but had to reschedule to next Wednesday.  I came back to work Monday after being off 5 weeks for the knee surgery and didn't want to ask for more time off. I'm doing South Beach and like it although I'm not being 100% true to the diet.  For the most part I stay away from sugar, white flour and anything high carb.  I'm hoping to find a protein shake mix that tastes good.  So far I've tried Spiriteen (sp?) but it's too high in carbs.  Tried Slim Fast low carb and the taste is yucky.   I thought your weight that is turned in would be how much you weighed when you had your first consultation.  The ending weight will be what you weigh after the 3 month diet.  Seems kind of silly having to go on a diet when you are going in for WLS, but I guess they want you to get accustomed to eating healthy.   Jo

Dr. Price does not require most of his patients to lose a certain percentage of weight. Sandy's father died unexpectedly, so is out of the office.  Don't know about Carla. Had my surgery Monday and got home last evening about 5:30 pm.  I live about 2 hours north of the hospital - but the car ride was not bad.  I am tired.  Cannot seem to sleep more than 2 hours at a time, then have to get out of bed. Congrats on your surgery! Are you glad it is over? I am getting so close to turning paperwork into insurance. I can not wait for it all to over with! How was the hospital stay? I hope you have a speedy recovery!!

Val ~ Did you have bypass?  How long do you anticipate being off work if you work outside the home? I will be interested in hearing your progress. Jo

I had bypass.  Dr. Price wants you off for 3 weeks.  I had my surgery Monday, I will see him in the office 2 weeks from today, then go back to work on Monday.   My case was unusual - got insurance approval in 1 week.  Very fast! When you go to the hospital pack a pillow and a small blanket.  I learned this from a friend who had her surgery in October.   I had great care in the hospital.  The staff were all very kind and caring.  The food was BAD!!!!  Your tastes change so much.  The first day after surgery you get clear liquids.  Beef broth that is sooooo salty and sugar free jello - which was way too sweet. Second day is full liquids.  I tolerated a couple of bites of cream of wheat, but thats about it. At home what tastes good is light yogurt and sugar free applesause.  It is a slow process.  I got home about 5:30 last evening and have had almost the entire container of yogurt, a few bites of cream of wheat and a few bites of the applesauce. Between the 2 week liquid diet and post-op, I have lost 24 pounds. Hint for the 2 week liquids.  Adkins advantage keep you fuller longer than the cheaper shakes. Going to take a nap now.  Hope that helps! Val

I thought patients were on liquid protein for 2 weeks after surgery then started adding soft foods.  I can't stand broth, chicken or beef, to drink.  However, I do love au jus with a French dip sandwich.....LOL.  Guess that isn't on the menu.  Hospital Jello is so nasty. My husband has been a patient there several times for strokes and surgeries.  It's a great hospital.  He loves the food there, but he had regular meals.  At the Lees' Summit location you call your meal order in.  That place is like a hotel. Hope you recover quickly.  I'll be watching to see how you are doing. Jo

Dr. Price has his patients on liquid protein 2 weeks preop.  Postop you are on full liquids,  Right now I am eating a few bites of cream of wheat.  In 2 weeks I advance to soft.  At that point you can have canned tuna, chicken, overcooked pasta and rice, string cheese, etc... Val
