Hey all! As I have stated in my profile the need for this surgery is required. I now have 3 of the ladies that I attend church with wanting to help me try and lose the weight through weigh****chers and an exercise program at an area church called Zumba(which is an exercise/dance program). I have tryed WW 3-5 time and lost some weight but eventually gained it plus more back. I am just really scared and unsure what to do. There is a seminar coming up March 17th that I have signed up for. I wi**** were sooner and then I have to actually get an appointment with the doctor and then I don't even know how long before I would actually have the surgery. I am just not sure what to do. Meleta

to have the surgery is a big decision but one that i made with a happy heart . I had tried and tried and tried to lose weight thru all sorts of programs and diets, all were sucessful but then i gained it all back and then some. this is to be the last try. It is working , even tho i try sometimes it seems to sabbotoge myself. I have having a time fighting the old carb monster right now. and sometimes it seems like it is winning but then each day , each hour is a new time and i can again get hold of myself, even if it is just for a few hours i know i will win.

Please go to the seminar in March and learn what you can. then you can go from there. Until you are laying on the table you can always change your mind. lol so go find out what you can,, make an appointment with your surgeon go and talk and then see when they can do your surgery. If you arent 100percent sure , also come to one of support groups too we can answer lots of questions that maybe your doctor doesnt know the answers to , the personal ones that only a person that has walked in your shoes knows all about.

talk to you later.

I agree with everything Jan said.  Deciding to have the surgery is something very personal and something only you can decide.  Go to the seminar and if you can, go to the COF on Monday night where there are people more than willing to answer any questions you might have since most of them have had the surgery.   I don't know if you're going to be a self-pay or going through insurance.  If you're going through insurance, it could take a while to get approval.  So if you decide to do the surgery, you could go the WW route until you have surgery, but only if you want to do so.  Deciding to have the surgery is a big decision but you've come to the right place to get answers and support. By the way, is the Zumba class at the Baptist Church in Ozark by any chance?  Just asking because I went to one there for a little while and absolutely loved it.

The classes are in Ozark at The First Baptist church. I am going to go through insurance. What would happen though if I join WW and fall beneath the BMI that insurance won't pay and then like usual I gain the weight that I have lost again back? I am so struggling with this. Thank you, Meleta

I would call your insurance and see what the requirements are, if you haven't done so already.  I believe you have to have a BMI of 35 with comorbidities to have surgery so you very well could fall below that if you do the WW route.  I understand your struggle - I struggled with this decision as well.  I went to the seminar and then put off filling out the paperwork and going to Dr. Edwards until it was almost too late because my insurance changed their policy to not cover any weightloss surgery.  I got my surgery just under the wire.

What do you want to do Meleta?  It's great that the ladies at church are concerned for your health and want to include you in their WW group and Zumba thing (never heard of that before - I'll have to Google it and check that out!!); but don't let them sway you away from WLS, IF it's what you have decided you want to do.  Now, if you are completely and totally unsure of what you want to do - then I would go ahead and go to the WLS seminar so you can be as fully informed about the WLS option as you possibly can.  Go to the WLS and Zumba thing with the ladies.   Losing weight finally, for good - is about finally being sick and tired enough, having reached your absolute rock-bottom, you're done, breaking point where you're ready to make a lifestyle change.  Whether that change is through WLS or WW and Zumba, sometimes it's the timing and even the right support system, regardless of method, that will help you finally succeed for good.  Could be having the ladies at church there to support you through WW and along with Zumba, might do it for you.  But even if you decide to do WLS, I would bet (and certainly hope!) that those same ladies would still be there to support you as a post-op and you could still do the Zumba with them.
