HI! I am new to the OH and would love to chat with fellow Missouri peeps about the struggles and process of the surgery before and especially after. I have struggled most of my life with weight and I now have to do something. I am very excited but yet nervous and not sure. I am going to the seminar March 17th in Springfield to hear Dr. Edwards and get more info. Congratulations to you all for just having the determination to do something about your situation. Meleta

On the 25th at the main library downtown? That is next to Central High School and the court house correct? At what time? How did you come to the decision to have surgery rather than try again other weight loss diet? I have tried WW and had lost about 27 lbs once in 2005 but gained it plus back since then. I have alot of health issues that are pushing me towards something more aggressive like surgery. I am really tired of living with the weight issues, the heaviness of the weight, the marital issues and just not feeling good. I also have hereditary health problems like diabetes, heart attack, stroke and weight issues. Thanks for listening! I don't really have any close friends that I feel that I can talk about these personal issue. Not even my sister with whom I am very close to. Meleta

Meleta, welcome to OH! I'm new here, too, just starting my journey.  I'm going to Missouri Bariatrics on March 18 for my first consult It's okay to be excited and nervous, trust me...I am both, too!  I don't live in Springfield, but am about an hour west of you in Monett.   I've struggled with my weight since I was a teenager, which is like 30 years.  I've joined support groups (like OA) and read books and done exercise videos and tried to starve myself normal, but none of it has worked.  I can lose about 20 pounds but then I gain it back....usually plus extra.  Also, at age 46, I have Type II Diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis in my hips and kidney failure.  I've got to do something. Take care and best wishes on your journey.
~ Patty

I don't live in Springfield--aobut 1 1/2 hours away, but I just wanted to let you know I have Dr. Edwards as my doctor.  He really is such a good doctor--very nice and concerned.  The seminar is a very good time to ask any questions--you will learn a great deal there.  It is a big decision to make, but one I am very happy I have made.  It has saved my life.   Vanessa

Welcome! Thought I would pop in and say hi.  I was banded by Dr. Edwards on 7-25-07 and have lost 75 pounds.  Don't regret it at all!  I have tried all the diets too and have been overweight all my life.  My mom, my sister and I all struggle with our weight but I am the heaviest.  Banding is different from RNY and teaches you patience as the weight doesn't come off as fast but we are not as restricted as the RNY either.   I would be happy to answer any questions you might have, just email me.  I usually go to the Circle of Friends meeting but I hired a personal trainer and we meet on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm.  So, I am out of the meetings for awhile.  The trainer is worth it though!  I go to the gym now 6 days a week where I never went before.  He keeps it different and interesting which really helps me out.   Welcome and ask all the questions you want! Jennifer
