Hello, my name is Brenda and I am new to the fourm.  I am using Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia, Mo. I live in Harrison, AR.  I have insurance approval as of two days ago, I hope to be appointed a surgery date next week.  Of course I still need my pre-testing done etc.  All this can't be done soon enough for me. I'm excited and scared at the same time. I am looking forward to attending the Springfield support meetings and getting to know all of you!  Please add me as your friends!

Hi Jan! We visited a while back, I hope you remember me from Harrison, AR.  How was your cruise? Fun I bet.... It is so cold today a cruise sounds wonderful! Did your knee hold out for you? (I've been there done that and have had both replaced and love it. ) I would attend the Circle of Friends meeting, but my 2 yr old grandson has pneumonia and we are to take him to Children's in Little Rock to see some specialist on that date, so I'll have to attend the next meeting...do you know when the next meeting is scheduled???  BlueCross Blue Shield Advantage Administrators of Arkansas (my PPO plan) approved WLS on the 15th. Medicare will be secondary since Bothwell is a Center of Excellence and Hornbostel is within the plan too. Now all I need is a surgery date!  I hoep Margie calls and assigns me one by next week. I wonder how Dena is liking her work in ER?   I think of her often and wish her all the best. We were married 35 years ago on the 14th of Feb.....so the 15th (my approval date) starts a new and exciting journey for both me and for Randy! We are both nervous, scared and excited...just like when we got married! hahaha        Brenda

I am a new post op I had surgery on 1/21... unfortantly I had complications and had to go back into the hospital had an infection but no one would admit to the fact that I had an infection so that was very frustrating.  Ran a fever for 3 weeks when asked why didn't get any complete real answers as to why I had a temp. again very frustrating.  I have been off work for a month and still not feeling well.  I know not everyone has complications a lot of people do just fine.  I would suggest that you ask lots of questions and research, research, research...... I thought I knew all the complications and things that could go wrong well I didn't so please ask questions for you benifit..... Good luck to you I hope you have an uneventful surgery and fast recovery

Wow- your story shows we never know what is in the cards for us....  How long were you in the hospital the second time?  3 weeks with fever is NOT good...  I have many medical issues and a lowered immune system, I pray to God I don't get an infection.....my system has a hard time fighting it off.  I will be sure and tell this to Dr. H. when I see him again and then right before surgery too.  Thank you so much for the 'heads-up'... Are you ok now?  Bet you are weak from it all.  But I hope you feel better by now anyway.  Are you eating food yet? The thing that I need the most, that I have yet to find...is there anywhere a person can find a list of foods for the different stages?  Does Dr. H office give you anything like this before surgery?  I am just not creative enough to come up with all the things I'm reading that people are drinking or eating. Do you have a desk job?  I'd think that would be much easier for you to go back to.  I have been on disability for the past 7 years, but worked clerical jobs and the like back when I did work.  I'm 53 so I tell people I'm retired when they ask.  I just don't like to go into all the explainations about health.  (I get tired of hearing it...ha!) I would hope Dr. H office is keeping a close watch on you-  Please let me know how their service is when things don't go text-book..... Nice to visit with you, Brenda ps- I love photoshop and digital pictures on the computer...I can't get my picture to come up o nthe top of my page....whats the deal, I made it the size they say...my other pictures went on fine...  I love your flipping pictures.  We had a pure breed Shih-Tzu and your dogs are beautiful!!!  Ours won't leave her pony tail up.  She is 8 months old, its still a tad short-

Brenda, Dr. H office should give you a notebook with the different stages of what you can eat and at what time.  I found the book of little help cause it fails to list all the foods that you can have.  I only found out additional things that I could have by bugging Margie and also by reading a book called "Before and After Weight Loss Surgery".  You have to be creative or if your like me you will get bored with what you can have.  I was told I could have peanut butter but I dumped on that I think because it's thick and sticky I tried both low sugar and all natural with no sugar and I dumped on both so be careful of peanut butter when they say you can have that. With regards to your picture (aviator) I couldn't get mine to wor****il I uploaded it on www.photobucket.com then got the code and posted it in my settings.  Mine flash cause I had someone on another board do that for me I guess you have to have animation shop to get it to do that.

Brenda Welcome to the board...Iam like Jan Iam a graduate for Dr. H...He is very good surgeon...the whole staff treats you like party of their family...I have never had a bit of trouble with them at all...I too had to stay extra after my surgery.. I had an infection type pnuemonia...they treated me before they released me...Then I got proper care through my PCP, through Dr. H and his staff when I got home. So I was taken really good care of....Two months later I had to go to the ER in Sedalia for gall bladder surgery....It came all of a sudden, which they did tell us in the seminars that these things might happen ...Again, Dr H did an excellent job. I dont have a bit of trouble telling or suggesting people to go to Dr. H. He is one of the best in the state of Missouri in my books. God Bless Craig Lee

Craig Lee, Thanks for the warm welcome!  I hope I can do as well as you have!  You look great and it is nice to know that men save their fat pants like women do!  Way to go!!!Yeah!!!!   I will be so glad to get a surgery date.  I'm so tempted to eat all my last meals in one day from nerves.  I am allowing my self jelly beans and chips and fish sticks today.  And you know what?  They do not taste near as good anymore....  In fact since starting this journey, a lot of foods that I thought tasted good and I'd better eat it while I can.....  it just simply does not satisy...it is all in my head in other words.  So I'm learning..... Once I get a surgery date, it is all liquids for me from that time forward.  I've made it my rule.  I just wish I'd get the phone call - Thanks for writting, please add me as a friend if you'd like, Brenda

OH man- I can't imigine an infection type pnuemonia post surgery.  The cough alone would be a killer!  I am an oxygen patient because I have a rare lung disease called LAM  ( thelamfoundation.org ) and I am just hopeing and praying I don't have any lung issues with this surgery.  You poor dear, then  gall stones!  I've had that taken out already.... I was never symptomatic, it was removed so I could start a trial drug.  I've heard it is very painful-  Thanks for the encouragement, I hope this finds you doing well and loosing the weight you want.  Right now I'm just wanting off diabetes medication and the CPAPmachine, and oxygen!  The weight loss will be a awesome side effect and distraction!  Take care, Brenda
