My surgery will be at St. Luke's in Kansas City with Dr. John Price.  Just wondering if others on  this board have had or will have Dr. Price. JB

Hi JB, I too am going to have Dr. Price do my surgery.  I just went for a consult on Feb. 12.  I turned in most of my paperwork.  Will see the psyc next Sat.  Awaiting a call back from the dietician to schedule that appointment and will see my PCP on Monday, to have her write the letter that I am medically sound to have surgery. What are you having done? I have a coworker that had the bypass back in the fall.  She has lost 71 pounds.  I think she said she had about 20-30 lbs to go.   Thanks, Donna

Hi Donna ~ I went in thinking I would have lapband, but Dr. Price, Sandy and Karla think gastric bypass is the best for me.  I have about 100 lbs. to lose.  I do like sweets and they said with the lapband I would be apt to stretch it out more if I ate sweets.  With GB if I eat sweets on am empty stomach  I can get very sick.   I've seen the dietician and physiologist and had the sleep study.  I need to contact my doctor for the progress notes and the letter.  My consult was January 16th.  My insurance requires 3 months of diet and exercise.    I have a co-worker that had lapband almost 2 years ago at a clinic in Overland Park.  There was no prep like Dr. Price requires.  She has lost about 80 lbs. and needs to lose another 50 but she doesn't follow instructions.  She eats a lot of junk food and is still throwing up a lot.   Another co-worker's wife had lapband a year ago and has lost 105 lbs. and is at her goal.  Her doctor told her she can eat anything she wants but just small quantities. I'm wondering what to tell my office when I go in for surgery.  Confidentiality is non-existent so if I tell my supervisor and the office manager I might as well publi**** in the Star.  I'm thinking I will tell them I have some medical issues that need attention.  When I come back and have lost a chunk of weight they may suspect I had WLS but I'll deal with that when I have to. Hi Jo! Well, I received the same talk from Sandy and Dr. Price about having the RNY.  I don't know.   I suppose you could tell your supervisor that you are having some bowel surgery, which is true and you aren't fibbing.

Dr. Prices's office already has my medical record and their medical history form that I downloaded and completed.   I'm seeing a psych dr. next Sat. morning to talk to her and also have her write a letter.  I will see the dietician and exercise physiologist on Tues., Feb. 26.  I'm going to my PCP on Monday and ask her to write the letter that I am medically sound to have the surgery.   I've already had a bunch of tests and a sleep study 2 years ago.   I had to pay to have my medical record copied from my doctor's office since I was going 5 years back.  The office told me that they now use an outsourced company to copy charts.  I think my cost nearly $53.00.  After I paid via credit card, I received my chart a few days later.  If you doctor's office will do it for free, more power to you. While I want to lose quite a lot of weight.  I am still concerned about the bypass.   Please stay in touch.   I'll add you guys to my buddy list if I can figure out how to do that.  I just want to the process to move along quickly.  I too will probably have to do the 90-day diet.  My boss is very cool.  I even talked to one of the doctors I work for that is my favorite.  I need to talk to him about the bypass.  He knows a lot the gut and malabsorption. By the way, there's a new band out there called the Realize.  It's suppose to be easier to work with and less stiff.  I haven't read the the articles that I printed off about it.  There's also a tracking website that a person can use, but it sounds like a high dollar gimmick.  I still have time to sort this thing out and make up my mind.   Please everyone stay in touch with me! Thanks, Donna

I am a Dr. Price patient.  I am having my surgery on  February 25th.  I am having Lap RNY.  A co-worker of mine had Lap RNY with Dr. Price in October and is doing fantastic.  She is down 65 pounds and looks and feels great.  No problems what so ever.

I will be anxious to hear how you do after the surgery.  How long did it take you to complete the process and get a date? So glad to hear your friend is doing well.  After reading some of the message on the main board, it kind of makes me wonder if this is the right thing to do.  One person wrote that she can only eat a small selection of foods, no meat.   I try to picture myself at the weight I should be and just can't imagine it.  Guess because I've never been there.   Jo

Hi All... I had my surgery done on 1/15/08 by Dr. Price.  I have nothing but great things to say about the team of people in that office.  I have had no complications whatsoever.  I've had no nausea, no vomiting, and went home in very little pain.  They certainly do a good job.  Now...Donna...I wanted to try to answer your question about the transected part of the stomach.  You may have already gotten an answer from someone else...but I'm bored this evening so I thought I would add my 2 cents worth of knowledge...  Dr. Price will go down a certain length of intestine and cut it apart.  The lower part is brought up and sewn into the new pouch.  The part that is still attached to the larger stomach is re-attached further down (don't know were exactly) to the intestine and that is where your food will meet up with the digestive juices that your big stomach is still producing.  That is the where the "y" comes into play in the name of the procedure...it ends up looking like a big 'Y' in there.  Anyway...just wanted to say hi to my fellow Dr. Price patients and best of luck on everyone's journey! Jerri

Well, thank you so much for that info.  That's what I get for not looking up the information myself!  Sometimes it takes a layman to explain things in an easy fashion.  I wanted to make sure that the remainder of my organs were just hanging out in there looking for something to do.  I had the mindset that I was going Lap-Band, and wasn't too concerned about the bypass.  However, now, I'm thinking bypass.  Thanks again for the info.  I'll find some published articles to read for any outcomes and complications. Thank you for your well wishes! Donna

Jerri ~ I'm so glad to hear you be so positive about your surgery.  Dr. Price has 14 years experience so he should know what he is doing.   Keep us posted on your progress. Jo
