I am so frustrated and discouraged about this whole thing!  I had surgery 10 days ago and been running a low grade temp every since then.  Had to return to the hospital Sun. and just got out yesterday evening for the 2nd time.  I feel so malnurished or something and look very pale and sickly.  My White blood count was high but did come down a little and my RBC is low but was told it would take a while for those to go up?  I have severe brusing which I was told was the reason for my ongoing temps.  I'm not getting anywhere with my surgeon he is so vauge and doesn't talk much or offer suggestions it's like he is just there I feel like I don't have any repore with him at all.  People are telling me that I need a second opinion but I don't know where to go I have medicare?  I'm so upset cause I have been so sick and not getting any better feel very dehydrated AGAIN!  I feel as bad now as I did Sun. when I went back into the hospital and I don't know why?  Am I doing something wrong?  I feel like I'm not eating enough especially protein I am on stage 2 diet where I can now have other things besides just broth.  I'm thristy all the time and can't seem to get enough to drink my mouth is so dry.  I wish I would have never done this to myself I would have much rather feel alive and fat then feel like I'm slowly dying..... I need some input about how to get to feeling better since I'm not getting anywhere on the medical side.  Yesterday after getting home from the hospital I got sick and had the dry heves and felt faint.  I just want to get to the bottom of this and start feeling better, so if you can please offer me some suggestions I would be most appreciative. Bev

Hi Bev, I'm so sorry you aren't feeling good. Bless your heart I wish I could help on the medical question, but I don't know. As for the thirstiness I was saved by the sugar free jello in the ice cube trays ( to keep track of)(1 oz in each section). Also sugar free popsicles. Tea too. I'm praying for you and I wish you all the best. Connie

I haven't had my surgery yet, so I don't really have any advice to give you.  But I did want you to know that I have and will continue to pray for you.    Things are going to get better soon.     : )

Dearest Bev, Hang in there girl. Keep in mind you just had a major surgery and sometimes it takes a bit to get back on your feet and back into the swing of things.  And bruising takes a bit to heal. I've not heard of it causing you to run a temp as you have, but I'm not a doctor either. If you have been and are still a bit dehydrated that may be why you are so thirsty. Just keep getting in as much as liquids as you can so that will improve.  Some of the feeling that you are not eating enough so soon is probably your head hunger talking to you. Your brain was use to having you eat a certain way and certain amounts and now you are not doing it. So it is messing with you.  I will be 8 months out Feb 4th and I still can only eat aprox 6-10 bites most of the time, depending on what I am eating.  Have you tried talking to your doctors nurse? Dr.Scott's nurse was always very helpful in helping me with any questions I had when I had my surgery. You may have to make an appt with your doctor and point blank ask him questions and let him know you expect answers. As your doctor it is his job to help you understand what is going on and set your mind at ease that things will improve.  If that does not work you might want to consider calling another doctor that takes Medicare. I am not sure what their thoughts are on taking over other doctor patients but it would not hurt to check it out. Does your doctor have a partner you might check with?  My prayers are with you....I hope you get to feeling better soon...Give yourself a bit longer to heal and get back on your feet before you begin to hate that you have had the surgery. It will bring about some wonderful changes in your life once you get past this bump in the road.....Luv & Hugs...Tammy~ammy

Bev so sorry to hear your feeling so bad, I understand completely.  First off sip sip sip just as much as you can as often as you can.  I know you feel like just laying there but get up and move.  Just walk up and down the halls or to the kitchen to get more to drink.  The dry heeves sounds like you are dehydrated.  If you are not getting the answers you are wanting from Dr. H maybe your not asking him the right questions, he comes off with the better then thou attitude but if you don't back down from him and ask him direct questions he usually will come around with it.  He really is capible have known several people that have had problems with their surgery and he usually got them taken care of.  But if it is dehydration then it is up to you to get that under control, I know it's hard but you gotta do it.  If you don't it can cause some really bad things to happen to you and I don't want to see you get that bad.  When you get dehydrated it can cause your kidneys to start to fail and that's a whole nother ball of wax.  I don't want to scare you I just want you to feel better. I know your thinking I didn't have the RNY, I don't know, but I did have surgery and I did get very sick afterwards and wasn't able to eat or drink at all, and the drinking is much more important then the eating at this stage.  I wasn't even able to talk with out up chucking all the time.  I also had the runs with it, I was readmitted 3 weeks after the surgery with my kidneys failing, I was in ICU for a week and was treated for kidney failure, I was very lucky that I had a doctor that wasn't going to let me go home till he knew what was wrong with me.  I had every test you can think of and more, but the cat scans couldn't be done till they got my kidneys back because of the drugs for that is really hard on your kidneys as well.  So please keep going to the doctor don't think it will get better, if you are feeling really bad then go back till he finds out what's wrong.  You don't give up we are here for you.  I hope this gives you a better idea that some just get started easier then others.  Buyers remorse is usually the first few months also, just keep thinking it's going to get better and it will it just takes longer for some then it does others. So prayers up and feathers flying, you take care of yourself and keep us posted. Marylin 314/180/150

Bev, It really doesnt sound like Dr. H to be vague with anyone...But, I wanted to tell you that I had pneumonia when I had my surgery...I had to be sent home with TWO huge bottles of nasty antibiotics...I too thought I was looking terrible and felt really bad and discouraged...Dr. H, was good about helping me. But, you still have to stay in contact with your Family doctor with this like I did...They all work together...Just hang in there...I just wanted you to know that you're not the only one that had to go through this...My Prayers are with you...God Bless...Craig Lee
