Hi All, I used to be a frequenter of this forum, but it has been awhile since my last post.  Anyway, I am 3 1/2 yrs. post-op and I have been having what I thought was horrendous gas for 2 weeks and after an endoscopy, the doctor has decided to do exploratory surgery with probable internal hernia removal.  Can anyone who's dealt with this please share what symptoms you experienced, and also after surgery how long was it before you were back to normal and back at work full time? Hi Mere I had an internal hernia right at about one year post-op.  I had abdominal pain so bad I could hardly breathe.  I knew something was obviously very wrong, so I called Dr. Richardson and managed to drive myself to his office (which at that time was 1.5 hours from my house).  He determined I had an internal hernia, which is common in post-ops and is caused from the way they do the RNY surgery and reconnect the intestine and make the "Y"; after we begin to lose weight, it can cause a gap to form and intestine and loop through there and get pinched.  It can even be intermittent - meaning, slip in and out of that hole.  I had surgery to repair it and have not had any problems since.  He did my surgery lap and went in through the belly button (same place I'd had an umbilical hernia repair done previously) and fixed it.   I do not work outside the home, so can't help you on when you could return to work.  I would guess it would depend on if you do any heavy lifting as to how long you might be out.  Hope this helped ya!
