Help define clear liquids for Dr. Hornbostel's patients
I was reading my binder yesterday and saw that the day before surgery they say you have to be on a clear liquid diet and no milk base products. It said that clear liquids included 100% fruit juices, clear pop (what is clear pop? diet or reg.?), tea, coffee, jell-o, and broth. Can I not have my slim fast shakes today? Where are my calories coming from if I can't have my shakes?
2nd question; I know you can't have advil or asprin what about tylenol?
That book they gave me is confussing sometimes and not real clear and specific like it should be.
Help! This is the day before surgery....
Bev~
Hi Bev and good luck on your surgery tomorrow - I will follow you on Tuesday. According to what I was told - clear liquids are anything you can see through. As far as soda - any diet 7-up products, or diet sprite - those kinds. No shakes on the day before surgery. You probably won't get a whole lot of calories, bu****ch the calories as well, you don't want to go over the 1000 for the day. Tylenol should be fine, just let them know in the morning what you have taken - anything as far as medicine. Asprin products tend to cause bleeding - they are blood thinners.
I hope this helps and when you are walking around - come visit me :)

Bev,
Dont worry about calories today. Clear liquids are anything you can see through, broth, water, crystal lite, sprite(diet), jello (yes- jello), juices (not orange) white grape or grape are ok. Coffee and tea are also clear liquids and popsicles. This is what they bring you on your tray after the leak test also. I ate a lot of broth the day before. God Bless and keep you in his care. Colette
