I'm trying to quit smoking, not only for the surgery, but for a better quality of life.  Any suggestions.  Does anyone have any info on how hard the doctor's are about it.  I've been told I need to be smoke free for 2 months. Thanks!

I used the patch. I quit a few years ago though, so I can't answer your question. It is so hard though good luck. Also, if you use the patch take it off at night, or be prepared for crazy dreams.

I quit smoking November 1st using Chantix.  It has been hard & I find that I want to smoke especially during really stressfull times.   The Dr did ask when I quit when I went for pre-op 12/12.  I was also weighed in on that day & had gained 13 lbs since I quit.  My surgery can't happen fast enough for me.  lol The de Paul website states that you have to be smoke free 2 mos.  But nothing like that was stated at pre-op.  I would ask. Hope this helps..

I quit 4 years ago cold turkey, no medication or patches, after 20 years. I personally think you just have to be mentally ready and willing to do it, or it won't work. Dr. Wagner is my surgeon as well. I don't know that he is too strict about it. I think it's more one of those "nice to haves". But check with Sarah, his office manager. She's always good for a frank and honest answer! Good luck.  Rene
